Can't access network drive
I have my mp3's on a network drive on a computer named Athalon64 in a folder called mp3 in a sub directory called rock. I set it ups as
\\Athalon64\mp3\rock but when I attempt to play a file, I keep getting the error ERROR(-4): Cannot View Program because it is over and was not recorded. What do I have set wrong? |

All Services run as LocalSystem cannot access network drives of any type
So you must run SageTV as a service using a real user account (one with a defined password -- blank passwords do not work either!), and then you can access UNC paths... Services can never access mapped drives. |

Only info I can find is on page 14 of the manual about how to set it up with the service. Might also have to open up the firewall for the SageTV service also. Don't know since I don't run it as a service.
Also, you may be having a problem with VBR mp3 files. Don't know if they changed anything to get SageTV to work with those now, but previousel it only worked with CBR files. |

Thanks, turning off "run as service" did the trick. I am not much of a network expert, how do I set up a user account.

Go into Control Pannel, Users. Then add a new user.
What I did was create a new Administrator account called Sage, gave it a password (not telling you though ). Then I went to Start->Run and enter "services.msc" (no quotes) find the SageTV service, go to the Login tab, and set it to use the account you just created. Then just restart it. |

Well I had some trouble when trying that, for some reason when I changed the user in there it wouldn't work. When I did it in the services pannel it worked fine. Who knows maybe I was having trouble typing

I can, but I made sure the account I created had full access (default is read only) to the share.

So, what are the benifits of running the Sage TV Service Control? (conjecture here) See pages 14 & 15 for info on the setup info.

I have the same questions about the benefit of a service. Also, does anyone know, under XP Home if I create a username and non-blank password is it possible to automatically login on reboot? Although he'd probably handle it fine, it seems crazy to need to teach my 7 year old a password just to watch tv!
Thanks |

As for benefits of the service, this has also been answered elsewhere, and the RC5 service control app includes an About box: Quote:

Just to clear this up... not all services run as localsystem, they can (and usually should) run with a real unique user account created by you.
Services cannot access mapped drives because the mapping of drives is done by explorer.exe (interactive Windows) which does not run when a service account is logged in. a) use a real user acount b) always use UNC share syntax (when you have the choice) within application settings P.S. I like the new avatar, Stranger. |

Just wanted to let people know that I also had to use stanger's way of changing the user account for the service from local to a real account. Just looking at quickly, I would say the two things we have in common are we tried to use administrator accounts to do this. Just my guess as to what might be causing problems
