MCE Remotes

With 2.1, is this talking about the Windows Media Center remotes? Both the 2005 and th previous version?

Yes. I have the Phillips MCE Remote and it works. I have the previous version so I can't confirm if the 2005 version works but it should.

If you look at this MS site, you will see a list of remote commands. SageTV 2.1 currently responds to everythings but the ones that use WM_INPUT, I believe.

Does this with work with the MCE receiver too (I assume the blaster won't which I don't need anyway) or would I need to get another receiver?

Seems a lot of commands use WM_INPUT. Is Girder required for those to work?

I don't have an MCE remote, so I'm only going on what I was told. Maybe someone like gplasky can confirm actual operation...

I believe the receiver is part of the package & using a different receiver would mean using differnet software, like Girder. SageTV does not use MCE's blaster.

It depends on how many of those commands are actually implemented on the remote. As far as I know, SageTV doesn't respond to the buttons that use those commands, but I could be wrong. It should do so in the future at some point, but I don't know when. If SageTV doesn't respond to those buttons, then you could use Girder or use it with a USB-UIRT directly with SageTV.

Yes this works with the MCE receiver. (No blasting)
If you want to use all the buttons you have 2 choices: Either use Girder with the MCE plugin or use a USB-UIRT receiver. Sage supports the USB-UIRT but I wasn't successful trying to get it to work thru Sage. I kept coming up with some duplicate codes on the keys that I couldn't resolve.

For me and wanting the most flexability I'm using Girder on the one PC and USB-UIRT and Girder on my Main PC.

Thx for the confirmation. Forgive my ignorance, but is there some reason why Sage doesn't support these WM_INPUT buttons? Seems strange.

I tried using the MCE remote/receiver and the Girder plugin on an XP SP1 computer awhile back but IIRC (its been a month or 2) I had issues with XP stealing the remote commands (i.e. TGB started WMP even though mapped to Sage via Girder). On an MCE computer I disabled ehome(?) service and it worked fine.

Don't know... lack of time when this was worked on, perhaps? Maybe it will get added at some point.

It is a nice step to having a remote. Hopfully the 2005 remote gets support.
