There was much confusion with how the MVP Client works for me also before I purchased it. What this plugin does is, in some clever ways, it video screen captures the SageTV interface and displays it on your TV. This is why you need a PC running SageTV client in order for it to work. It's like remote desktop, but it's only for the SageTV interface window, not for the entire desktop. That's why it doesn't matter what STV you use, the MVP Client plugin just captures it.
As for the Mpeg2 video stream, that data is fed separately to the MVP which decodes it using its hardware decoder, so you get proper de-interlacing for smooth video playback. Its working quite well as a SageTV PVR set top box client. OF course, draw backs are no DVD playback and no divx support. And also there's a slight split second delay when navigating the menus. Most people learn to live with it as this is the best and only option to get an affordable and functional set top box client for SageTV. We all got this Matt guy to thank for to make it possible.

The client is working for me, although I have a pretty significant issue - the audio is WAY out of sync for recordings but live TV is just fine. I can't simply adjust the audio delay since it would throw livetv out of sync.
Setup is: -HTPC running sage 2.2.8 and sage client 2.2.8 (client for the MVP v1.3.0) -MVP in another room via cat5e cable through WRT54g router running DD-WRT21 firmware -HTPC has enough juice for the job (two seperate hard drives for recordings, A64 2800+, 512mb ddr although i'm contemplating 1gb) Last edited by k1114; 10-03-2005 at 05:00 PM. |

Has anyone tried the registry change for the MVP suggested by Hauppauge? I'm not sure if it would conflict with optimum settings for regular traffic.
Edit: Just checked and my settings are already at the values suggested. Last edited by Slicky; 10-03-2005 at 10:52 PM. |

I am using a wireless setup which worked 99.9% of the time prioir to the latest plugin.. however almost immediately after updating to the latest version, I was experiencing an "abundance" of disconnects. Once I rolled back all was well again

This was discussed earlier.
My solution was the following. 1. Configure the NIC speed on the SageTV server that the MVP streams from to 10/half duplex 2. plug both the MVP and your wireless adapter to a hub (preferably a switch) This has worked for many Quote:

It boots up saying "contacting mediamvp boot server" "contacting dhcp server" over and over again. can someone translate this for me in to dummy terms and tell me what to do to fix the problem? 2:33 PM 10/6/2005Thu 10/06 14:27:53:983 10 INFO Config.getProperties: Properties loaded: mvp/mvp.properties Thu 10/06 14:27:54:153 10 INFO Config.getProperties: java.vm.version=1.4.2_06-b03, os.name=Windows XP Thu 10/06 14:27:56:306 11 INFO MVPBaseServers.start: Starting..., version=1.3.0, mvp=MVP1 Thu 10/06 14:27:56:566 11 INFO Server.start: name=BootpServer Thu 10/06 14:27:56:676 11 INFO Server.dumpNetworkInterfaces: name=BootpServer, Network interface 0: name:lo (MS TCP Loopback interface) index: 1 addresses: /127.0.0.1; Thu 10/06 14:27:56:676 11 INFO Server.dumpNetworkInterfaces: name=BootpServer, Network interface 1: name:eth0 (Wireless-G Notebook Adapter WPC54G V3 - Packet Scheduler Miniport) index: 2 addresses: /192.168.1.100; Thu 10/06 14:27:57:848 12 INFO Server.registerHandlerInternal: name=BootpServer, networkInterface=eth0, address=/192.168.1.100:16867 Thu 10/06 14:27:57:958 11 INFO Server.start: name=TftpServer Thu 10/06 14:27:57:968 13 INFO Server.registerHandlerInternal: name=TftpServer, networkInterface=eth0, address=/192.168.1.100:16869 Thu 10/06 14:27:58:038 11 INFO Server.start: name=ServiceLocatorServer Thu 10/06 14:27:58:058 14 INFO Server.registerHandlerInternal: name=ServiceLocatorServer, networkInterface=eth0, address=/192.168.1.100:16881 Thu 10/06 14:27:58:299 15 INFO MVPOSDRenderingPlugin.openOSD2: width=480, height=720 Thu 10/06 14:27:58:339 15 INFO MVPClientServers.start: Starting..., version=1.3.0, mvp=MVP1 Thu 10/06 14:27:58:339 15 INFO MVPClientServers.?: Disabling Wizard Thu 10/06 14:27:58:499 15 INFO Server.start: name=GuiServer Thu 10/06 14:27:58:499 15 INFO GuiServer.doInitProperties: compressionYuv=1 Thu 10/06 14:27:58:499 15 INFO GuiServer.doInitProperties: compressionAlpha=2 Thu 10/06 14:27:58:509 16 INFO Server.registerHandlerInternal: name=GuiServer, networkInterface=eth0, address=/192.168.1.100:5906 Thu 10/06 14:27:58:719 16 INFO LibMvpClient.getInstance: using native implementation Thu 10/06 14:27:58:759 15 INFO Server.start: name=MediaServer Thu 10/06 14:27:58:759 17 INFO Server.registerHandlerInternal: name=MediaServer, networkInterface=eth0, address=/192.168.1.100:6337 Thu 10/06 14:28:27:511 12 INFO MVPConfigService.getMVPConfigByMac: New MVP, mvp=MVP1, mac=00:0d:fe:00:80:25, remote=/0.0.0.0 Thu 10/06 14:28:27:531 12 SEVERE BootpServer.read: MVP doesn't have an IP address. For me the trouble getting recordings to play on the MVP went away as soon as I put in the latest MVP Client. Don't forget that the Sage installers now default to putting the files into the SageTV folder, not Frey Technologies/SageTv. Maybe you put the MVP Client into the wrong directory? All just guesses, but what I think are the most likely things.

SageClient in System Tray
How do you make the sageclient show up in the system tray when using MediaMVP?
Thanks

GUIError with RC2?
Has anyone else seen the following in their mvp_x.log...?
..CUT Sat 10/22 6:49:47:690 16 SEVERE GuiServer.exceptionOccurred: java.io.IOException: An established connection was aborted by the software in your host machine ...CUT The MVP will fail on locating server, although it loads the dongle.bin just fine. A simple close and re-load of the client will normally work for a 'fix'. The client is still running on the host PC however... Could it be due to the JAVA version that I am running (Version 1.5.0 (build 1.5.0_04-b05)? I seem to see a recurring 'opinion' that the latest JAVA release (Beta...) is just that - BETA. It seems that most folks who have minimal issues are still running the version that actually came with Sage. In any case, I was hoping that someone had seen this issue... I hate to be the first on these things. It normally means that I am the culprit as opposed to the software. -Jason |

Looks like that might be "normal".
I just took a look at my logs and that message was right at the end of the latest log. I had just been using SageMVP and had turned the MVP off via the power button on the remote. I thought that was odd so I just went back in and turned the MVP on and it connected just fine. Shut it off again and there was another of the same message coinciding with my power off of the MVP. So your connection problem may be elsewhere. I'm still using Java 1.42.xx because of all the odd problems people have been having with the 1.5x versions. Of course I did have to give the Java updater the "smackdown" and tell it not to update when it kept putting a popup bubble in my taskbar saying there was an update. Just to flesh out my config, I'm using Sage/SageClient 3.0.11, the latest SageMVP, Java 1.42.xx, and both Sage and SageClient/MVP are running on the same machine, NO service mode. This all on a hardwired network through a Gigabit switch with the CPU being Gigabit and obviously the MVP is 10/100.

Moved to .14 RC2 and more frequent disconnects
When I switched to version 3.0.14 RC2 I noticed that when sage is recording programs, my MVP disconnects more frequently (wired and wireless)... I cannot get through a 2 hour movie without it disconnecting at least 3 times... I have a 2.2 ghz processor and 1 gb RAM... Can anyone tell me a way to stabilize this issue??

Stuck encoder...can't watch TV
Hi Matt et al. Reading about the MVP a year ago motivated me to drop Ultimate DirectTV at my new house and get a configurable network, Sage server and several MVP's. Thanks. I've got The server set up with the latest beta Sage running in Service mode, a 500MCE dual tuner, two instances of the (mvp)client, and two MVP's. I also have the capability or running the pseudo client on the server. After several install/uninstalls, everything seems to be working. There are a couple of things I need to clear up before releasing this on the rest of the family and stealing the rest of the digital STB's for additional tuners:
Here's the first... If an MVP is on line, I can't use the encoder from another location. I've seen this mentioned in previous posts, but not sure I understand the fix. They said to hit the square stop button on the MVP remote before sleeping the MVP. Does it matter where you are on the MVP...watching live tv or playback (middle or end of a recording) or from any menu? No sure I understand the TV vs. Live TV command. Will the service take over the encoder to record automatically if an MVP is left on? |

Automated Reboot Configuration
The second...
I travel a lot so I'd like the server to be "rebootable" and have every thing working. Running the Sage service is no problem, but not sure about the best way to set up the 2 startmvpclient.cmd. Now I just have them in the startup group which means that I have to log on or set up the auto login via the tweak program. Not to keen on that as kids might log me off to play a game or surf. I did note that after the initial install of the client, sage had reated a registry key to automaticall start sageclient.exe under HKCU. Could this be changed to point to the startmvpclient.cmd and moved to the HKLM (or local machine) section? This would be better, but I really like the idea of getting the clients running under service mode with the option the restart service option if it crashes. I played around with the Service_installer.exe program that was posted here before. Can that be used to start multiple MVP clients? Does the alloy interact make the client accessible in the tray? Is the Service_installer.exe program the same as the one someone mentioned at www.firedaemon.com? |

MVP Connection
The third...
Every thing seems to connect ok, but there are times when I see the "contacting server" screen. In normal functioning if the MVP is sleeping and the client is running, should the MVP screen pop to life when awakened (assuming the client is still running). If the client crashed while the MVP was sleeping what does the screen say? When the client is restarted, will the MVP quickly re-establish a connection or does it need to be rebooted? |

TCP/IP Registry Fix
The fourth,
-Reg fix? Several posts about the TCP/IP registry fix on the Happauge website. Several questions about what this really does that were never answered. Does the registry change effect other network operations from that server? One guy said he checked, and his settings were already like that. The laptop I'm on now doesn't even have a setting there. Should I run this registry change on my Server? |
