Firmware Upgrade for MVP?
fifth...
-MVP firmware Several posts talked about upgrading firmware from Happauge, and then Matt talked about the dongle.bin being included in the MVP install. Not sure I understand the box, but it sounds like all the MVP's functions start after it reaches the boot server. I've never run any Happauge software. Should I go to Happauge to get a "firmware" upgrade, or is that already included in the MVP software from Matt? |

MVP Client files and directory structure
and last for now...
-Directory structure I installed the client into MVP1, a subdirectory of the main SageTV. The client install has a /common directory that appears similiar to the /common directory of SageTV. When doing the copy of MVP1 contents to create MVP2, I didn't include the MVP1/common subdirectory, and MVP seeps to work ok. Is there a problem having two /common directories...one in SageTV and one in MVP1? Should I delete the MVP1/common directory? Referencing Matt's picture of recommended file structure, he doesn't have the /common subdirectory. For others it'd be nice if you could update the picture since the new directory structure. |

akenis,
whoa, thats a lot of questions. I'll try to answer what I know. If you really want your family to buy into SageTV, you really need a dedicated PC to run as a server. If you let the kids play around with the SageTV PC, you're only asking for trouble. So if you have a dedicated PC, you won't have to worry about user switching problems. Or else you have to make the MVP client startup files run as a service, which I'm not sure will work. As for MVP connection with MVP client. I had terrible issues with it when I first tried the MVP client. The TCP registry fix did nothing. I updated to the recent MVP Client and now it stops having disconnection problems. Power the MVP up, it takes a few seonds, but will auto connect to the MVP Client. If I leave the MVP on, and reboot the MVP client, then as soon as the MVP Client boots up ok, the MVP takes a few seconds and connects to it. Firmware, I know nothing about. As for directory stucture, I didn't copy the Common folder, only copied the SageTV folder and renamed it to MVP1, MVP2, etc.. MVP seems to be working quite well, pretty damn good for a user created plugin. Matt did an amazing job.

Audio Seconds Behind Video
I have a recording that plays fine on my computer but when played through either of my MVP's the audio is about 2 seconds behind the video. It was recorded at Fair quality. I have other recordings at Fair quality that play fine on the MVP.
I've searched the forums for a solution, but all I found was a couple other people reporting similar problems. What causes this? How can I fix it? How can I prevent it from happening? Thanks, Mike. |

I take that back. It looks like all the recordings at Fair quality have the problem. They seem to start out in sync, but then if I jump forward they're immediately about 2 seconds out of sync.

I'm busy ripping all my CDs to WMA lossless and it got me wondering if it might be possible to play them using the MVP/SageClient. There is a beta of the MVP software available that allows WMAs to be played on the MVP but I've not seen anything here about it working with Matt's client.
I know that WMA playback is supported in the latest Sage Beta. Has anyone attempted playback of WMA using the MVP Sage client? Andy. |

Has anyone gotten this to work with SageTV v4? I just gave it a try and am getting CancelledKeyExceptions. MVP can't contect GUI server.
EDIT - nevermind - I had a java version issue; tried to kill too many birds with one stone. Installed jdk 1.5 and now it's working just fine. -Justin Last edited by Surtr; 11-06-2005 at 01:09 AM. |

I'm using v4 fine with this pluggin. I run the MVP and server with Malore's STVi and also Nielms Comskip STVi.
The only difference between the MVP and sever version is that when a compskip file (via ShowAnalyzer) is working on the file for the recording I'm watching, on the server the commericals showup as I"m watching. On the mvp I have to wait until the commercial file is done..then watch the recording. Any ideas? Thanks! |

Been using this for 24 hours and I just have to say -- kicks a**! I was expecting slow menus, etc but the menu delays are barely noticable. With the MVPs for 40 bucks at Radio Shack, I'm a happy camper. Awesome, awesome work on the client SW Matt. Too bad the MVP doesn't have hardware divx decoding though...

The best way in my opinion is to rip to a lossless format like FLAC and then transcode as needed. The MVP doesn't exactly have high resolution DAC's in it anyway, so transcoding it to MP3 is not going to reall hurt you in terms of the maximum fidelity it can provide, but on my HTPC hooked to my Marantz reciever with SPDIF hooked to some nice speakers, I can definitely tell the difference between MP3 and FLAC. Don't settle for less on your highend systems to deal with things like an MVP. Thanks, mike |

MVP brightness?
This may have been covered before, but I looked through the thread...
I recently found 2 MVPs at Radio Shack for $38, so thought I would try it. Everything from SageTV/CLient/MVP Client/MVP went like clockwork, everything came right up and we love this. ...But...Am I missing something basic? All video (both televisions & server) is quite a bit darker than when the televisions are either on Cable or DVD input. I have to actually set brightness/contrast settings almost to max. Some movies are almost unwatchable. Can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks to Matt for a great application... |

I know you all are just waiting for me to add in other logical info before helping me so... 1) capture card - 500MCE 2) left all Sage settings in default 3) 1st STV - composite video, 2nd STV - S-video ...anything else? |

Thanks Matt much appreciated.
Just picked up my MVP yesterday and was anxious to get it going. I searched high and low and could not find the MVP Client hosted anywhere except your site. Any volunteers to host Matt's client? I would hate to have this happen to someone in the future. |

air_canada,
Have fun with your MVP! I remember that i had never heard of the thing and was thinking of building a dedicated HTPC. I saved a lot of money not doing that! The MVP with Matt's plug-in is awesome. I use it all the time without ever a hick-up. Henk99
