Have hardware, but unsuccessful, help please:)
I have a WINTV PVR USB2, Cabled to a Media MVP. I was happy to get it running on my dual processor P4. Then I saw that I could use the Sagetv to create my Tivo replacement. I have been trying for 3 days after work over and over again to get this thing working. Sagetv runs great by itself on my PC.
I have: 1. Taken the sagetvmvp-1.3.0 zipped contents and pasted them into the Sagetv directory that the exe shortcut on my desktop runs from. 2. ctrl-alt-del and end tasked all of the programs listed on the host website. 3. unplugged the WINTV PVR USB2 4. Double clicked the "StartMVPClient" program in the Sagetv folder. (Without sagetv running) and a blue sagetv screen comes up showing "No video capture devices were found". 5. Plugged in the Media MVP. 6. When I exit out and double click the "Sagetv" exe, it works on my pc, but after 10 mins the media mvp is still not showing the sage screen on my tv. I have been trying everything I can think of. Help would really be appreatiated |

Have you purchased and installed the SageTV Client?

Nope, just wanted the as UI for SageTV
I just want the free version, so I can run the GUI through our tv off the sage. I'll most likely buy if it works.

Thanks for responding
To make sure I:
-Reinstalled Sage4 -Created C:\Program Files\SageTV\MVP -With Sage shut down, copied SageTV contents to MVP -Overwritten files in mvp with sagetvmvp-1.3.0 contents -Turn off MVP -Execute StartMVPClient I get "No capture devices were found" Sagetv screen |

You have to set SageTV up first. Did you run through all of the configuration on SageTV including tuners before you copied the directory?

yes, now if I click startmvpclient alone, first, without starting sage.exe, I get a sagetv load to the "no video devices found, straight to a sagetv screen. It does not recognize my video !#!
If I load sage tv through the sage.exe, it loads fine on my pc, but not on my tv. BUT if I now click on startmvpclient, it will start another instance of sagetv, where it will let me view what is on my pc on my tv (it loads to my tv), if I use my remote it will let me move around the guide. It will not let me select a different show than what is started under the first instance of sagetv (on my pc) as my video card is already dedicated ##!! I guess what I'm missing is the link. I want to engage actively the first instance of sagetv brought up on my pc. yuck. All in a good weeks fun. Last edited by booboorulesus; 11-11-2005 at 03:11 PM. |

i am having the same problem. i just upgraded from my old version of sagetv 2.1 to sagetv 4.0. I also upgraded the mvpclient, but am receiving the same error when i double click the startmvpclient: it starts another instance of SageTV (the mvpclient is doing this?) but it is essentially an empty instance, meaning it doesn't recognize my video capture device, any tv programs, no settings, etc....
however, when i start up SageTV.exe (not the MVP client) it shows up correctly on the PC (with appropriate recordings and settings) but won't show up on the tv. same problem as booboorulesus... Thanks for the help, i'm still trying to get it to work! i must be doing something wrong... |

Sage tv service control
Could the fact that I can't get the sagetv service control to start be my issue? The sage tv service state button will not let me start. I have checked my verion of java and uninstalled/reinstalled/rebooted with 1.4. I went through control panel admin to start through sage tv properties, but always fails. LOL. I think unless I see some serious change I will give up, as my demo expires in 2 days, and the wife is pretty mad after I wouldn't let her watch Alias as I was so involved. I bet I have 16 hrs of mix, lather, repeat on the install of sagetvmvp. I would really love to talk to someone who could walk me through the integration of this into my tv, as I really am not interested in this as a pc watching network tv item, but as a replacement to our tivo recording, pausing and archiving system. (Not to mentionj the "fun" of tinkering as sadistic as that sounds!) Thanks for the suggestions.

you are right you have to get the service running before MVP will work if you are using mvp setup option "2. as UI for SageTV running as Windows Service".
Perhaps through all the trial and error something is now hosed so take a step back one more time and make sure sagetv is shutdown and don't trust shortcuts. unplug mvp from A/C do a ctr-alt-delete and look for any sagetv processes (make sure haupauge SW is not running also) or sagetv applications running. Quit them if they are, then go to your \prog files\sagetv\sagtv directory and double click sage.exe, make sure it works, tunes, etc. then close sage, copy all contents from \prog files\sagetv\sagtv to \prog files\sagetv\mvp unzip MVP client again to \prog files\sagetv\mvp and overwrite existing files. back to \prog files\sagetv\sagtv and double click sagetvservicecontrol.exe. Then go to your \prog files\sagetv\mvp directory cross your fingers and double click startmvpclient.cmd. I use sagetvclient (mvp setup option 1), but this is all that should be needed, I hope. I am guessing the service you want to run is the one in \prog files\sagetv\sagtv. |

quick question as i am new to the MVP and just purchased it today (BTW--radio shack still has them around for $40 if you look hard--got the last one in the store by me-what a steal!). Anyway, i am going to be running this as a client--with the client being on the same PC as my full sagetv install. I know the aspect ratio settings won't work with this plugin, but can i set the resolution on the PC side (sagetv and client machine) at 1280 x 720 and have the MVP output that too--or will it automatically scale down to SDTV resolutions? Or--can I set this up so I can 'fill' a 42" HDTV screen? I know its not ideal but..Basically, I am planning on using this for my HDTV until the sage extender comes out. If not, no problem, i can just use the wide zoom on the TV and adjust the UI settings to match it.
Thanks JUC

having trouble
Well, i have been having trouble setting up one MVP as a client. I installed sageclient in a seperate folder, extracted the files into the sageclient\sagetv folder, rebooted, ran the command found in the sagetv folder--sage client openned up on the server machine (sagetv was also running in the background). I plugged in the mvp and it says verifying connection (or something like that), searching for XXXX then it goes as far as saying something like initializing software then just keeps alternating between that and the searching for XXXX (doing this by memory sorry). That it.
after this, i did install the hauppauge software and it did work so it is able to connect to my network). I then uninstalled the software and tried again. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks JUC edit: i'm connecting this to a 5 port switch. running v4 both sage client and sage tv.

got it working!!! Had to set my network to only use 10/half duplex mode. Works great. Thanks a bunch. One thing--for those that had to do the 10/half duplex thing---is there anyway to make that setting only stick for the MVP or does it have to slow the whole network down. I don't transfer many large files but seems like it could be an issue.
Thanks JUC

Another thing you can do is add another switch. Put Sage server on switch #1, MVP on switch #2. Leave them both at auto speed.
It changes the collision pattern enough that you usually get a lot better throughput to the MVP. Jason |

That's interesting. Might give it a try. I also need to check back and it is possible that i did not have it set to auto mode and forced the 100mbit instead-which was giving me troubles....we'll see
Another note: So, no preview windows for the MVP is what I have been reading. Kind of interesting but i enabled the preview window in sagemc just to see what it did and the audio works fine, just the image doesn't get resized so you are only seeing the bottom left corner of the display. Is this what people mean by not being able to use the preview window? If so, is anyone leaving it on just to keep the audio part of it going? It is hard for me to loose all touch with the program while i channel surf or go back to the main menu and I might just decide to leave it on to get the audio track going. Anyone doing this? Thanks JUC

I just set Video Menu Style to Background instead of Window. Then you see the whole picture, behind the OSD.

ooh, good idea--i was never a big fan of the background images (lots to look at) but will give it a try.
Thanks Josh
