Transferring License?

Hi all -

I'm a newbee here and I know of a person (a friend of a friend) who has purchased sagetv and the client software. He has since decided to use MSE2005 instead and is willing to sell me his copies of the software. He said that he does not remember registering his software but in the event that he did, can 'transfer' or use his copy of the software if I purchase it from him?
