Using DirecTV Serial Control
I have been working for two days now trying to get the SAGE TV program control my Sony Satellite receiver. I am getting close, but still seem to be missing a piece of the puzzle. I am new to this, so should you reply, please don't assume too much about what I might know.
I have sucessfully used the Direct TV Control application to control my sat receiver. And finally, it seems that I can control the receiver with the SAGE TV application, but only if I have the DirecTV Control.exe running and minimized. I have several questions: 1. Does Sage TV require the DirecTV Control.exe program to be running in order to control a satellite via serial port? 2. Other than making the registry entries for the EXE Tuner plug-in and making sure it is in the Frey/Common directory, is there anything else that has to be done with it? 3. Is there anywhere I can find a step-by-step installation with the necessary files in order to use DTVCon to send commands to the serial port? 4. Is Girder another possibility, or is it somehow required even if I use DTVCon? I'm sorry if I don't know the right questions to ask, but I feel I am close to getting things to work, but not quite there. Thanks for any help you can offer. Did you ever answer these questions? I've just downloaded SageTV and I plan to control a Sony Directv unit as well. I'm new to all of this and I have some of the same questions. So what's the best setup for controling a Sony Directv rcv. with SageTv. I have an EPIA M9000 computer with a Hauppauge PVR-350 card.

Your are correct sir. I got my cable hooked up and it worked as you said. This is really cool. Now if I can just figure out this remote I'll be in high cotton.
