Any hope for getting serial support for newer DirecTV boxes?

I've tried a number of methods and held out extreme hope of possibly controlling a Hughes HTL-HD set-top box via Sage, and none of them has worked.

I started out with USB-UIRT but had too many occasions where digits were dropped and captures were missed. I then ordered a TV Translator frrom Paterson Technology to connect to the serial port on the stb but this still did not work in Sage. From what I have read in other areas the firmware upgrades to the stb as well as upgrades to the DirecTV Serial Control program have suggested that control may be possible.

Users with dedicated PVR boxes have reported success with such combinations, but I have not seen or heard of so much with Sage. Is there any way to modify property settings or do anything that would allow these functions to work natively in Sage?

For the record, I can control the Hughes box in DirecTV Control, with or without the TV Translator, if the 'New Command Set' option is set properly, and I can control a older DirecTV stb from within Sage.
