_If_ I understood what he's doing for the remote, he may also have to add support for the new remote's extra buttons in his MVP client code. You may want to check that too.

Edit: This thread has now been unstuck and has a link in the list of Information Resources for Remotes, Receivers, and IR Blasters.

Eh, heck with it. I ordered two of them. So we'll find out in about a week I guess. (no guts no glory... It's only money... etc, etc)

I figure it will be supported EVENTUALLY... If not, I'll sell them on ebay and get most of my money back.

P.S. I also sent sales support at Hauppauge an email asking them to make SURE I get the new remote, not the old one. We'll see if that works...

I would request that they send a return shipping label since it sounds like it was their fault for shipping the wrong one.

good idea; i've still not heard back from the hauppauge store. i recommend NOT buying from the hauppauge store if you can find the remote elsewhere, just b/c it's kind of a primitive website. (i say that b/c you don't really get a chance to create an account there. you just provide your info and can't log in to check order status or anything like that.)

anyhow once they respond and explain how they couldn've sent me the old remote, i'll post here. i'm sure they'll rectify it, but the dang thing's only $14.95 which is about what the shipping could cost

I ordered one of the new remotes on 11/10, came in today by UPS. BUT, they sent the old one, which I already have. So, anyone ordering one - beware - you may not get what you order!

hey robk and everyone else- as i posted above i got the incorrect remote from hauppauge as well, but they contacted me today and they said they are sending the correct remote. they also arranged for ups to pick up the (incorrect) remote they initially delivered. so far it seems like they're trying to fix things proper.
-fodder

ps- in case anyone's confused, i'm attaching images of the older and newer style remotes. the file named "new" --- that's the new one! it's the one currecntly listed on the hauppauge web store site. ciao-
Attached Images
File Type: jpg new.jpg (36.0 KB, 356 views)
File Type: jpg old.jpg (76.7 KB, 332 views)

I sent them an email tonight, I hope they handle the error properly! The photo of the new remote is on the website with an "add to shopping cart" link, so it's obviously their error. I'm depressed, I was looking forward to playing with the new one tonight! Oh well, probably just a few more days wait.

Well, I got a quick and courteous response from Hauppauge. Here's the email I got this morning:

Hi Rob.

Many apologies. The new remote appeared in our store before we were given
the correct part number. We are issuing a call tag for the old remote today
and will ship out the correct remote today. Please reference RMA10893 on
the return.

So sorry for the mix-up.

Regards,
Dorothy

Update:
I got another email fron Hauppauge stating the new remote is shipping today by Priority Mail, and I can keep the old-style remote sent in error. Very nice of them!

Anybody need a brand new old-style Hauppauge remote? Free to a good home, I don't need an extra, maybe someone here could use it. PM me with address.

Oh, I received an email regarding my order. I was 'assured' I would receive the NEW remotes, not the old ones...

We'll see when they get here! (here's hoping for the right ones the first time!)

I just received my new remote yesterday. Out of the box it does not work with my WinTV 350 card. Is the only thing I have to do to get it to work is download the latest IR software from the Hauppauge website?

Regards,

Steve

I doubt a new IR driver is even needed... you can install that, but what you really need is an updated irremote.ini to make use of the new remote's buttons. You can find one that requires SageTV to have focus in the thread for link #1 in my sig lines, or you can find one that does not require focus in link #3.

If you use the one in #3, you may need to update your ir.exe installation, since it uses some newer functionality to send messages instead of just keystrokes.

You don't really need the new driver unless you want the send message capability -- all the new remote does is use system code 30 in the ini & that was always possible to do w/any programmable remote. The updated ini for using keystrokes contains codes for the new buttons.

As I said, follow the links in my sig lines for ini files that have SageTV support for the new remote's button layout. There are jpg files with a visual reference for how I defined things. Feel free to customize for your own preferences.

Just to let everyone know...

I received my two new 45 button remotes today (yay - they sent the right ones).

Since I wanted to use this with the Media MVP, I had to do a quick upgrade. After replacing the dongle.bin file in the MVP dir with the one from the latest Hauppauge Media MVP driver beta (which I got off of SHSPVR.COM), the remote works fine. (of course as always make sure you UNPLUG the Media MVP after restarting Sage with the new dongle.bin file to actually get the Media MVP to load the new file...)

All buttons work correctly. So, I'm a happy guy. Nice having more buttons for my Media MVP (finally!!).

update-
i got mine, too, and it works great. had to reprogram all the buttons which differed in their transmitted IR frequency, but oh well.

one odd thing is that each button alternates between sending one of two IR codes, each time you press it. but it's actually a feature since you can use it to add a toggle functionality to some commands.
