client play DVD

I've installed the client software on my server to support the MVP extension.

When I PLAY DVD using SAGETV.EXE it works fine and plays the DVD. When I use SAGECLIENT.EXE on the same machine and PLAY DVD I get the DVD Initialization and then nothing else but a black screen. If I pop open the DVD drive I get a windows error that it's accessing the drive on the server.

Thoughts and thank you.

Jim

The MVP client can only play DVD's that have been ripped to the drive, and the sound converted to MP3. Having said that, no, I haven't actually managed to do it yet, that's just what I've read in other forums.

SageClient can play DVDs just fine, however they must be ripped on in the local DVD drive.

The MVP however doesn't support DVDs at all (for practical purposes).

Just to add to this. The Client can play LOCAL DVDs in the LOCAL machine but can't play a DVD in the server machine.

And according to Matt's known issues concerning the MVP client, the MVP will play ripped DVD's as long as the audio is re-encoded into MP3.

To play back ripped DVD's off of the server hard drive with the SageClient you need to set up the folder for the DVD files in SageTV as a UNC path. This was a known klinker in v2.0. I don't know if it was fixed in v2.1 or not since mine is still set up with UNC.

The MediaMVP has about the same limitations as SageTV otherwise as far as DVD playback goes AFIAK.
