Lessening Dimming of Video during OSD (MVP Playback)

Anyone know how to reduce the dimming of the video when the temporary OSD(?) appears. I'm talking about the OSD that shows the amount the time that has elapsed, the program information, etc. The one that disappears after a few seconds.

It would be nice if the video doesn't get temporarily dimmed when I, say, skip forward.

Haven't been able to find this in the FAQ. I guess one workaround is to change the amount of milliseconds the OSD is displayed, but I'd prefer to keep the video at the same brightness when the OSD appears.

I'm talking about the dimming of the video while watching time shifted content on my Toshiba tube tv<-MVP<-Pentium 3.0GHz, Sapphire Radeon ATI 9600, Sage 2.1, Sage Client 2.1, latest MVP drivers,....etc..etc....

You can't keep the video at the same brightness when the overlay is up. It is a side effect of using the Media MVP as a client.

You can adjust how dark/light the dimming is though.

1. Close Sage
2. Open your "MVP.PROPERTIES" files (is in your SageTV/MVP dir).
3. Change the "GuiServer.semitransparency" line

Default is 160. Lowering the number makes it less dark. 125 worked for me.

That coupled with reducing the amount of time the OSD is shown made the 'dimming' bearable for me. Your mileage may vary.

Thanks, Jason. I did lower the transparency to 125 and the OSD setting to 2500 and it seems to be more bearable.

Glad it helped.

Believe me, I wish it didn't dim at all... Not sure that will ever be worked around on the MVP though.
