DVD Playback on a 350 TV-out?

Hi All

I have a setup with SageTv 2.1 and Sonic Cinema Player.
The DVD is on the disk and I have followed the instruction here:
http://www.sage-community.org/index.cgi/wiki/DVD

I have Sound on the TV-Out and the overlay but only a picture on the PC screen?

What can be wrong?
The settings is Default (Only way I can get it to play the DVD!)
The audio works fine with both Cyber & Sonic

I thought that DVD playback through the TV-out was possible?

Hope somebody can help med
Cheers

The 350 doesn't use any of the decoders on your computer, it uses it's own built in hardware decoder which can not decode copy protected MPEG. However, if you selected to remove CSS and Macrovision in the ripping process to store the DVD on your hard drive, then I believe you should be able to play thru the 350 TV out.

However, the 350 is kind of picky about MPEG files and will not play certain types. Try ripping the DVD again and be sure the ripper program is set to remove CSS and Macrovision and see if that works for you.

I have just tried Four other DVD movies all ripped with DVDdecrypter to the Disk.

Decrypted and Macro removed.

Also tried without the menu.

All DVD settings is set to default (except audio and that works).

Everything works! in SageTV on the PC monitor but on the TV-out it is a black screen but with the Audio and the Overlay function is also working.

I know that other is doing this? Maybee its a driver issue?
Any other idees? I am running out of options.

Can it be a NTSC or PAL issue?

Is there a special setting for the DVD play in SageTV?

Hi kny3twalker

Thanky for your suggestion
I have used Shrink and that didnt change anything.

I followed this guide: DVD Setup Sage Community

Have you succeded in getting a DVD to play on the 350 TV-out?

Because in this other post it seems like its not possible?
Easy newbie DVD playback question (I hope!)

I would really like to hear if anybody have done this?

I have heard of many people doing it
not sure why you are having an issue
have you tried using winTV or something else that supports the pvr 350's hardware decoder

I good start might be searching here and the shspvr.com/forums

it should be possible as long as the movie is not protected

I too have the exact same experience with playing ripped DVD's through the PVR-350. In an effort to try and figure this out, I took the ripped DVD and edited it with Womble to convert into a standard MPG. Unfortunately, since the PVR-350's hardware decoder doesn't like playing MPG-1, it played the video, but not the sound. *sigh*

So, at this point I'm currently converting the ripped DVD into MPG-2 with Womble. This is a far longer process, which I'm currently estimating will take approximately 4 hours per DVD. Less than worth it.

Surely someone has a better solution for working with ripped DVD's and the PVR-350.

the sound is an issue because the pvr 350 can only playback mpeg audio
and DVDs are AC3

Is it possible to play the video through the PVR 350 and the audio through the sound card?

should be as long as software decoding is not disabled
but not sure how audio sync would be affected

I have found a DVD with a Stereo soundtrack removed the others and the result is the same?

I would really really like to hear from someone who have done this?, If ANY?

Sofar I can only get the picture on the PC monitor the 350 TV-out will not show the DVD picture?

Is there a NTSC or PAL setting on DVD play or in the registry I have to set? (I have already set it with the TV recordings playback and that works!)

PS I have tried to use the Sound Card and the TV-out from the 350 card and that does give sync errors!

Cheers!

I have done it with my 350. I ripped "Catch me if you can" and the picture was perfect. I got no sound because it was in AC3, so I turned on software decoding and the sound came out of the soundcard. I tweaked delay a little bit and it stayed in sync just fine. I am pretty sure I ripped with Smartripper.

If the DVD is playing on the PC and not on the TV-OUT you are probably using a software decoder. I uninstalled my software decoders and set to hardware output only to get the picture to work.

How to rip dvd to play through pvr-350

Check out my post in this other thread: http://forums.freytechnologies.com/f...94&postcount=5

I've gotten to where I can rip just about any movie I want and it works on both the PVR-350 and the media mvp.
