music by genre

please, please, please someone tell me that i can get this back again via an stv?

it was there in sage version 1.4 and gone when version 2 came about and this is how i organize and play my entire music collection.

any chance this one little music link can be added back?

the whole music experience needs an overhaul especially with beyond media making the push now but genre is my biggest thing at this point with a couple of more advanced (but not terribly advanced) vizualizations being nice too. (i tend to prefer the bars ans scales type vizuals)

anyway if i could get music by genre back and have that random play i'd be truly thankful.

on a similar note - if this is possible by .stv then i would presume that the same music by genre availability would be available using a media mvp too?

thanks, nick.

Music by Genre is possible, but visualizations are not. Neither is playing anything other than MP3. You just need to find somone working on STV's that also wants Genre .

mp3 is all i ever rip so that's no problem. vizualizations aren't nearly as important as genre, to me.

you know there's this pvr junkie on the sageTV forums who makes these freakin awesome stv's and is the only thing keeping me from jumping to mce 2005 (curses the devil, bill!!!) it would be awesome if this dude could add genre's to his already fantastic piece of work....

i'll mail ya a beer!

I looked into doing it but the way Sage stores the data it would be cumbersome. However, it will happen at some point. I am hoping somone else does it so I can cut and paste .

if some ingenious fellow can help out here i'd be extremely appreciative as would my wife.

Genres missing

I'm sure it's something I missed somewhere, but I'm having a problem viewing music by genre in My Music.

I'm using SageTV v5 & SageMC 6.6. Per the recommendation of another poster I'm using MediaMonkey for the tags which is very cool by the way.

When I try to view by genres in My Music, well for example, I have a bunch of songs that are "Alternative Rock", but that Genre doesn't show up.

Is there something I'm doing wrong in the tags? Do they have to be ID3v1 or 2 specifically?

Thanks for the help.

Thanks mlbdude,
I changed all the Alternative Rock genres to Alternative and changed the option from "Use ID3v1 and ID3v2" tags to ID3v1 only.

I went into My Music and Rescanned Import Folder. I don't know if that would have helped or not so I just did it anyways.

Still no Alternative genre.

Am I still doing something wrong?

Edit: Is there a reason they are all numbered?
