Klitschko vs. Sanders
Klitschko vs. Sanders and a replay of Jones vs. Ruiz will be aired tonight at 9:45 on HBO. I've tried recording boxing before and I've not had good results (it was just odd looking, I can't quite explain it) I was thinking it was probably due to using CBR instead of VBR but I'm not certain. I was hoping that perhaps someone that has had success with recording boxing or other sports (on the PVR250) could suggest some settings I could use. Thanks in advance.

What quality are you recording at?
I always record at Great quality (2 GB/hr). I never seem to have any issues with recording any sporting event. Although every once in a while I get a jump in the recording, but I'm sure that's because I haven't set up a dedicated drive for the recordings yet. John Meeks |

I always record sports at 3Gb/hr because I usually end up watching it and deleting it right away so it doesn't take up that much space. I do notice a difference in quality with all the action vs. 2Gb/hr. I also keep changing between DirectX acceleration and Dscaler because I can't decide which one I like better for sports.

I use the following settings for just about everything because I need DVD compliant files that look as close as possible to a TV broadcast (the pre-set qualities result in odd artifacts on the bottom of the screen and an all-around bad quality):
seeker/recording_qualities/OmegaCVD=OmegaCVD,224,48000,4000000 mmc/python2_encoding/OmegaCVD=videobitrate\=4000000|width\=352|height\=480|audiobitrate\=224 This is great for regular TV but not for sports. Any other suggestions? [EDIT] I think the reason 352x480 looks better for me is because my digital cable box usually decodes 352x480 (though it is capable of higher). I think higher res is reserved for PPV and some other stuff. Thus, if I encode at a higher res, I get an odd-looking recording. -Omegadsl Last edited by Omegadsl; 03-08-2003 at 05:12 PM. |
