Black Screen on Recorded Shows

I apologize for something that has been discussed in the past, but I'm having troubles.

I just installed SageTV last week and only now have gotten down to using it. I can watch live TV with no problems (video and audio are fine). However, if I try to watched a show that I've recorded, the screen is black but the audio is fine.

Relevant Software/Hardware:
Hauppauge PVR-250
ATI 9800 Pro
WinXP
NVDVD decoder
SageTV ver 2.1.10

I've got Sage using the NVDVD decoder and using overlay renderer. I've also tried the Intervideo decoder. If I select VMR9, Sage crashes; however VMR9 works fine in TheaterTek.

I updated the PVR250 drivers using the link on the SageTV support page but no change. Recording Quality is set to BEST.

I tried to follow the Troubleshooting FAQ regarding "Overlay surface set to be on the monitor only" but found nothing about this in my video card's setup.


What am I doing wrong? ...besides being a noobie.

try updating to the new beta

the newest beta works pretty well
and has built in decoders that should have in trouble shooting

are you displaying SageTV on the primary monitor or a secondary monitor?

when trying VMR9, try choosing default decoder (it should be nvidia)

I've just reinstalled the latest PVR250 drivers again. And then the one's listed on the Support page here. I used the cleaner software from hauppauge each time.

I downloaded the latest SageTV beta and tried all the renderers and decoders. None of them work with either PVR driver. I even tried recording something just now but got nothing but a black screen. Watching live TV is still fine.

I'm displaying SageTV on the only thing connected to the HTPC, my Mitsubishi HDTV (no second monitor).

Thanks for the advice on VMR9, it no longer crashes Sage.

All this fiddling with the settings has resulted in Sage locking up at least 3 times.

If I can't figure this out, it kind of renders the software useless.

UPDATE!!!

Well, I think I figured it out. TheaterTek (TT) could play the recorded files without problem. However, the video was black in Sage. Therefore, I shut off the AutoStart Detection program that TT installs just to see if that did anything. I don't know if that did it, but now I can watch recorded files.

Go figure.
