nvidia 71.20 beta drivers finally allow 1080i via dvi

looks awesome and works very, very well in mediator and of course works like crap in sage under vmr9.

so those of you who use 1080i and vmr9 in sage how well does the picture look stutter wise and how much (if any) tearing do you get via your various methods of connecting with 1080i?

Works great for me (66.93), but I use VGA

I don't see why not, I'm going to a Mitsubishi which has VGA breakout. It's basically the same thing with a transcoder as neither the TV nor video card know there's a transcoder there.

all previous versions i have tried from nvidia have a bug where 1080i absolutely wont work through a transcoder - just a scrambled mess for a picture - i could at least get a pic via 1080i over dvi previously but it was slideshow for video playback.

those using ati to accomplish this - what cpu's do you have in the pc and are you using vmr9?

overlay works fine however but doesn't look nearly as good.

FWIW, I don't think it's a driver or a transcoder issue, it's more likely that you just don't have a timing going that your TV likes. Analog inputs are VERY picky about the formats/timings they accept.

so do you think i should try and remedy this with powerstrip? if i try setting frequency in nvidia drivers to a perfect 29.97 it just results in virtual desktop.

Well for me, the 861B 1920x1080 resolution in the nVidia advanced timing section got me a picture, but it wasn't quite right (almost like the TV was getting 540p or worse). But the 1776x1000i resolution from powerstrip is nearly perfect, I just had to tweak the location a little.

the one thing that drives me nuts is the pixel adaptive setting for the nvidia decoders. that setting it just so intermittent but when set the video looks fluid and fantastic.

You could do away with the transcoder if you got a 6600

What are you plans for removing macrovision from DVD's?

i use anydvd - been using it for a long time since it also helps with skipping all the trailers and menus since i prefer to just go right to the start of the movie.

i also use the nero recode suite to do rips and i need anydvd for that too. recode is basically the same as dvdshrink but has better direct burning capability but needs anydvd since it wont break macrovision.

How much extra CPU do you think AnyDVD uses? Have you had any issues with it? I ask because I have been using it since switching back to my ATI. I seemed to have to back off of some of my ffdshow settings a bit. Also, some DVD's would hang more in ZP than I remember.

Oh yeah, the auto skip stuff does not work in Star Wars, it just repeats the first chapter over and over again .

anydvd has its issues that's for sure but i've been ok with it.

my ffdshow settings remained consistent but that is mostly because of using better versions than the one i originally tailored my settings to.

with the original 03252004 ffdshow without anydvd i could resize to 1440x960, luma sharpen to 0.75 and denoise3d to 0,0.5,4 hq. after anydvd i couldn't use hq but that was the only casualty.

mind you my processor is only a paltry p4 2.0 running at 2.26

i have been considering flashing my bios and sticking an o/c'd celeron d 2.8 in there and running it at ~3.4ghz or possibly just picking up a p4 2.66 and running it at about 2.8.

i think my MB only having single mode memory support might be a bigger hinderance though?

Well let us know how it goes! I almost ordered one myself to play with but was turned off by the power requirements and possible noise/heat.
