Maybe I missed this while glancing through all that stuff, but do you have one of the tuners listed on the SageTV System Requirements page, and do you have an MPEG-2 decoder installed?

What are your settings in Setup -> Detailed Setup -> Video? (See the Troubleshooting page & search for that 0x80040217 error code.)

What tuner do you have? Does the tuner work for recording/playback when using the software that came with the card?

Do you have an mpeg decoder installed? What are your settings in Setup -> Detailed Setup -> Video? What are you using for output -- what video card/connection?

If you mean you got the same 0x80040217 error code, see the Troubleshooting page & search for that 0x80040217 error code.

Sorry, I don't mean to seem short and I will be more detailed next time.

The system has both an Abit ATI 9600xt VIVO and the Hauppage 250 that was part of the kit sold on the Sage TV.
I have not tried anything in terms of capture or playback via the Abit as it did not come with anything for it.
Cyberlink PowerDVD is installed and does work for DVD playback so the mpeg encoder works.
I have RG6 from the cable box to the Hauppage and Svideo from the Abit to the TV.
Yes, I do mean the exact same error code and I have done as the troubleshooting guide requests. The best that I can get is snow with no sound. That is with default on Video render and Cyberlink for Mpeg2 decode.
If you would like I can tick off the troubleshooting steps done via the site you linked and the ones I have done on my own. I am very open to suggestions. I have noticed some links to a direct9.0c issue, while I am at that point it does not seem to be related. Oh and I guess it would help to let you know that I am using 2.1 as a fresh install.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I am using 2.1 as a fresh install.
Look into installing a driver update for the 250, as mentioned at the bottom of the page here. (I don't remember the details, but there was some change on the 250 and/or its drivers that required a driver update to fix it.)

Also, since this is a fresh install of v2.1, check into the dll update mentioned here: Updated DLL for tuner related issues in SageTV v2.1.

First I shut down Sage totally
I replaced the dll. No luck with any settings. I still get the same error on directx9, just and an fyi.
Shut it down again.
The driver was up to date, but I updateded it just on the off chance it had gotten corrupted. Still no luck.
Overlay seems to be working in that it can overlay the screen snow on the menus, however nothing can seem to even get a partial picture tune in.

Hopefully you have another suggestion.

Thanks for the quick responses by the way.

Does the card work with the Hauppauge software -- WinTV?

In SageTV, are the recordings getting created correctly? -- can they be played in some program other than SageTV?

When trying overlay, did you try disabling 3D Acceleration in Detailed Setup -> Advanced? If using 2 monitors, is SageTV on the primary monitor? Video card driver up to date?

New system - No Video, Same error code

I'm in the process of building my first HTPC and had the same error as originally stated at the top of this thread. My system summary is:

AMD 1600
Win-TV PVR250
ATI 9600XT
784 MB RAM
200GB HD
Windows XP Pro, SP 2

Sage 2.1 was the first thing I installed after installing the OS, Video Drivers, and PVR drivers. When I attempted to watch a show live, I received the Error on playback, (-4, 08 ....) code. I then went back in and installed the WinTV 2000 app to see if the PVR card was working. It does work and I get all channels showing up in the WinTV app.

When I go back into Sage and attempt to view live TV, all I get is static on all channels. Attempted recordings do not appear to be viewable either.

I have downloaded the tuner DLL referenced above and installed it as well.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

PS. I also reviewed the settings for the source in Sage and it shows TV Tuner, and Cable as the source. I'm using coax connection into the PVR card.

May be out of the woods

I had not installed a DVD decoder, so went back and installed WinDVD. After a reboot, it appears that things are working. I've got a few recordings set up so I'll see if everything works over the next day or so.

Thanks!

Nope - Back in the forest - Video is all static

After reviewing the program guide and setting up a couple favorites for recording, I left the box for a couple hours. I just went back to it to see if it had recorded anything. When I tried to view live TV on 5 or 6 different channels, all I get is static. I'm assuming the recordings will be all static as well.

Sage hasn't recorded anything yet.

It appears that the video works only sporadically.

have you setup the channels correctly and made sure if using an external box to use an ir blaster?

is SageTV ignoring the Vivo on your video card
you want it to be
check the properties file and see if it is being ignored

I went back to the channel setup and it appeared that all the channels were there, but just to be sure, I did a channel scan followed by reviewing all the channels and activating just the ones I can get through the straight cable (no cable box is being used now, I just want to get the unencrypted channels (2 - 99).

Channels still show up as all static.

Where do I look for the VIVO setting?

Also, do you know of any other system diagnostics that I could use?

Thanks.

you need to open the properties file in the frey technologies programn folder
use notepad and thre should be a line with ignore encoders
you want the ViVo to be listed there
so SageTV does not try to use it

I looked throught the sage properties file and the only "ignore" line was:

mmc/ignore_encoders=NVIDIA(R) nForce(TM) Audio,

(including the trailing comma ",". I tried adding "ViVo," by hand while Sage was down) but it apparently didn't take, since when I restarted the line reverted back to the above.

Any suggestions? Your help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

did you choose the correct channel line up since you are not using your cable box now?
and you have newest java besides v5, newest video card drivers from ATI's site,

the problem with ignoring the ViVo is you need to know the exact name

you said the TV was working after installing WinDVD, though

did you try to pause TV at that time?

have you updated your driver for the pvr 250?
