Super Newbee Needs setup help

I just purchased a SageTV/Hauppauge WinTV250 setup. I have an WinXP HTPC, and a Dish500 system with a Dish 301 Receiver and USB-UIRT. All the software is installed and seems to be correct. The WinTV software seems to work ok. I can plug a coax into the back of the dish and sent it to the WinTV250 card and get a signal and sound on the htpc.. The problem begins when I fire up sagetv. I guess I don't quite understand the setup.. here is how I have it setup..

Hauppauge WinTV PVR PCI II Capture
Hauppauge WinTV PVR PCI II Capture TV Tuner Channel 3
Use External Cable or Satellite Receiver to tune Channel
USB-UIRT Transceiver
MotorolaDCT2000? I have no idea if this is correct
Use Programming Guide Data with this source
Cable or Satalite I then put my Zip in and choose the local Dish zone.
Expanded service
Enable all channels
Complete

Now that, that is all setup I have no idea what to do now. I goto LiveTV Guide and see the guide. I can click on a channel and it will take me to the guide info, but when I click Watch now I get this error and SageTV locks up.

There was a Playback Error in playback.
Details
sage.playbackException:Error(-4.0x80040217): There was a problem rendering the video portion of the content for playback.

Please Help I have no idea what I am doing. I have all the newest drivers for Java, the Hauppauge card, and the USB-UIRT. Should I be using the coax cable or svid.. If I do use svid how do I get sound from the dish to the computer..??

Anyway. Thanks for any help

Mike

The error is can't decode video. Do you have a Mpeg decoder installed?

Pic quality much better if you use S-video IN. for sound connect to the back of your dish rx to the little sound-in jack on the PVR 250 card. It looks like the jack used on sound cards.

Also, why do you have both S-video and channel 3 configured? If you can recieve local channels through dish network, don't setup up the over air tuner on the PVR250. Perhaps Sage is getting confused with both options configured.

Not sure about the Motorola DCT, probably if not sure don't configure it.

In video setup, what video and audio renders are selected? Just use Hauppauge ones for now.

What video card? Have you installed any DVD software?

One more thing, the back of your dish rx uses 2 RCA jacks for left and right audio, the back of your 250 uses a single small jack. You can get a splitter at radio shack if your PVR 250 did not come with one, but it should have included this splitter.

I don't really recall if a decoder comes with that pkg or not. (One is always installed when installing DVD players though.) To test, can you playback an mpeg recorded with Sage via WMP or other app?

MDmint. I have PowerDVD and WMP on the machine

Wakecrash: I'm not using both coax and Svid. I wanted to use svid but wasn't sure how to get the sound. So I just hooked up the Coax instead.. I have one of those l/r RCA to 3.5mm plugs I can use for sound..

The Video renderer that is selected is VMR9 the audio renderer is default..

I don't understand this comment. "Also, why do you have both S-video and channel 3 configured? If you can recieve local channels through dish network, don't setup up the over air tuner on the PVR250. Perhaps Sage is getting confused with both options configured." How should I set it up then??

I must have misinterperted the setup you gave. So when you go to setup wizard you only have one source listed correct.

Also, I was going by memory when I stated renderer, I meant audio and video filters, those I would select Hauppauge for now. For renderer I would select overlay. You may want to try cyberlink or perhaps DL NVDVD later to see which pic quality you prefer after you get it working.

Ok I got it to start working. I moved to the SVid/RCA setup. Totally unistalled/deleted Frey folder and reinstalled. I selected the default video renderer and now it seems to be working. I can get the channels to work and all. the USB-Uirt doesn't work very well. I can get it to send just 1 channel number. The others just seem to evaporate or something. Any suggestions on the USB-Uirt setup or config..

Are you still selecting the MotorolaDCT2000? You said that you have a Disk 301 receiver, which I'm guessing means that you don't actually have a MotorolaDCT2000? When asked to select your receiver, you can choose to add a new receiver & then follow the step-by-step procfess to teach SageTV the proper IR commands for your receiver.
