PVR USB-II encoding issue

My Sage setup (2.1) has two encoding cards. One a PVR USB-II and the other a PVR-250. I have the default recording quality set to "MPEG2 Max" (~5 gig/hr), yet, the USB-II device is not recording at the max rate but rather at approx 1/2 the max rate. The 250, however, does encode at max rate. (I have ample drive space to encode at mpeg max) Does anyone have any ideas as to why the USB-II is not encoding at max? Is there a limitation with using USB?

Thanks, BryanJ

Recording qualities are now set "per-encoder" so make sure you have both set to what you want.

I guess there would be a max rate if the pvr-usb2 is connected to a usb1 port, but I don't know if the recording would fail or if it would automatically step down to a valid rate.

As stanger89 mentioned: check Detailed Setup -> Multimedia -> Recording Quality -> Set Quality. See if the USB2 Encoder is listed as something other than "Not Set". It will use the main default setting only if it doesn't have its own default recording rate.

Thanks for your replies... but still no bueno... I've got both the encoders set to record at MPEG max and yet the USB device still won't encode at the max rate.

You didn't answer Opus4's question about being hooked up USB 1 instead of 2.0

The recording is not set to use its own recording rate, right? (That would override the default.)

In Detailed Setup, do you have both tuners set to "Not Set" so they will both use the overall default value, or are they individually set?

Unless there is a problem with the USB2 port, the PVR-USB2 driver, or SageTV, I'm not too sure what else would cause this.

Initially, I had the default quality set to MPEG2 Max and the override quality settings not set. Currently, I've got the default and the override settings set to MPEG2 Max for both encoders. In both cases, the USB device records at a lesser quality. I recorded 2 - 30 min shows tonight at the same time with the USB encoder creating a 1.2GB file and the 250 creating a 2.8GB file. I'm puzzled. I'll try another USB port and update all the hauppauge drivers and let you know what happens. Thanks for the assistance!

Could you please post what the lines in your Device Manager read for your encoders?

Problem is fixed!!... All I needed was a simple upgrade to the latest hauppauge USB2 drivers.
Thanks to all, BryanJ
