Strange remote control behaviour

I've using the Hauppauge silver remote that comes with the WinTV PVR USB2. I'm also done the changes to enable control of SageTV even if the window doesn't have focus.

Some wierd control problems happen. Firstly is it normal that when the SageTV window doesn't have focus that only <some> of the remote button function? For example, the number buttons and Back/Exit buttons and Info buttons don't do anything. And the replay and skip buttons move 10 secs. at a time - same as the FF/RW buttons.

Much more annoying is that sometimes, pressing the remote's Menu button with no focus brings up the Hauppauge menu (switch application) command instead of the SageTV menu.

Now get this one. I used to automatically run a small program in the taskbar called Babylon (it does definitions, translations and conversions of words - highly useful). But if Babylon is running and SageTV doesn't have focus, it intercepts some remote commands like the Full command and displays its own interface window. How can a software program like Babylon which has absolutely no remote control functionality do this? I changed the keyboard commands for Babylon (Ctrl ' RMB, Shift - RMB, etc.) and its had no effect. This one is really frustrating because it is such a useful program to always have running.

Did you create your own ini, modify one of the ones I posted, or what? To me, it sounds like the ini file is not using {mode(SageTV)} to force that mode regardless of what program has focus. When some other program has focus & the ini is using auto-mode switching, it will no longer use the SageTV commands, but will use some commands for whatever program has focus, or the [Default] section if nothing else is used.

Thanks for the reply. I take what I am experiencing is not normal. I first edited my irremote.ini according to the instructions you provided for using the remote without SageTV focus. I have also simply used the downloaded irremote.ini file from you. There's no difference in behaviour. I have noticed that the problem with Babylon also occurs when simply running the Huappauge WinTV2000 application.

Are you using that mode() command I mentioned above? If so, I would like to see the ini file. If you are sending messages to SageTV, I'm not sure how some other program would react to anything unless either it 1) reacts to the same sort of codes and has the same window & class name (unlikely), or 2) the ini file is not in SageTV mode and is sending keys from some other app section (more likely).

Hmmm.. I just remembered that you said you used the ini I uploaded, so mode() is being used. You are using the ini that sends event codes, right?

You've restarted ir.exe, right?

What, exactly, is the window name for this Babylon program? What happens if you don't have it running?
