And, actually, if it isn't too much trouble could you trim off like 10 seconds of video from the front of the file, make sure the new, very small file produces the same behavior as the original and email it to me at the address in my sig? If you don't have software for editing mpegs, I believe that you can download a free demo of VideoReDo (which is excellent) at http://www.drdsystems.com/VideoReDo/.

Here you go... The log and 10 seconds of video is going to the addy in your sig... Hopefully all the SMTP servers along the way will cooperate!

Good luck and THANK YOU!

Your log file helped, I think. Could you try the attached dll with both files that worked before and those that didn't. Also, make sure and try it both full screen and with a small video window in the menu. Thanks!

I got your video file, but it shows up 720x480 for me. I wonder if VideoReDo might have scaled it? Did you test the small clip before you sent it? In any case, it isn't important if the above DLL helps you out.

My dev box has a Soyo SY-KT600 Dragon plus and my htpc has an ABIT IS-10 w/ Intel 865G. No NForce2. Are you having a problem?

well, the NForce2 chipset is one of the very few things that Freegoo & i have in common... other than the freezing video of course!
it's actually what i suspected as the problem initially because there have been multiple issues with NFII & the xcard on both sigma's & tvedia's forums. most (all?) have been fixed by uninstalling nvidia's ide driver, which i have done.

i'm just wondering if anybody is using the NForce2 chipset w/out problems... or maybe it's the culprit.

Hey, DFA, I remember an old thread you had about S3 suspend and resume with the Xcard. Do you have anymore details on your fixes? It is very important to me that my htpc suspend when not in use and I'm getting funkiness when I resume. Thanks!

And you are still having freezes with 0.0.8?

Crud! Could you change this property to true:

xcard/verbose_log=true

And then startup sage, reproduce the problem, and zip up your properties file, the sagetv(client)_0.txt file, and the xcard_log_pid####.txt that is newest? Thanks! Also, I know you said it freezes when you skip, but could you give me a little more details on how you go about reproducing it? Thanks!

ps. Let me reiterate that while it is harmless, I really wouldn't recommend setting your decoder in sage to the sigma designs xcard decoder. If nothing else, it is confusing since it has nothing to do with the plugin your filter selection.
Thanks,
Thing I noticed. When I first open Sage I can skip forward/backward normally as long as show is played. Once I open another show though if I try to skip then the video freezes and playback continues audio only.

I did two sets of log files. First is where I opened up sage, started a file and closed it like you asked. The second I opened one and tracked around for a bit, then closed and restarted it so that I would get the freeze while it was logging. Hopefully this helps.

I did change my setup since last update as well. am now going through hdtv rather than svideo hookup. Had no effect on the skip forward/back freeze problem though. (Looks sweet though). Am now using default on the video and audio decoders.

ok, i opened a video file, skipped forwards and backwards for about a minute. it didn't freeze right away so i closed it & opened it again. same thing, skipped forward & back and within 10 or so skips the video locked. often it'll happen w/ the very first 'skip" on both recorded shows and live tv.

i can't find any sagetv(client)_0.txt. i searched the sage directory for "sage*.txt" and still nothing. i included the xcard log & my properties file.

hope it helps!

ok, now we're geting somehere!
i get that too now that i checked. after opening sage, the first file that i play doesn't seem to freeze. it's when i stop playback and watch a second file or watch tv that it freezes. so it DOES seem to work properly until you close the first file. weird, but fixable i think.

Hi Tom.. tried the new DLL and it didn't help, sadly.. I did try that 10 second clip I sent you within sage and it did compress the same way, so you seeing it correctly is odd. I don't think the video itself is messed up, somehow Sage is changine the video settings upon playback on the files... I've gone back to 0.0.2 and once again all is well...

These types are the back breakers in debugging!! I know, that's why I got out of programming!

Thanks for all your hard work!

Edit: SageTVClient 2.2.3 Beta, Cayars STV V. 16

Hey, everyone who is having problems, can you state which version of Sage you are using and which STV? Thanks. I'll be looking at the log files later tonight.

Freegoo:

Have you tried setting the osd_rendering_height_ntsc and osd_rendering_width to set the size of the OSD to match your 1080i display? I'm wondering how it looks, how much it slows things down, etc. Thanks!

Also to those who are experiencing the skipping bug, try setting always_stream_mpegs to false and see if you experience the problem while watching shows that are NOT currently being recorded. I'd like to know if it makes a difference, and if it does it might be a decent temporary work around.
