Changing the Volume?

So, I try to change the volume in SageTV, and the green indicator moves, but the sound doesn't actually change.

If I change my Audio Renderer to "Default Waveout Device" then I can change the volume by switching to the nVidia "nvMixer" application, and changing the sound there, but shouldn't I be able to change the volume from within the application?

Oh, I'm using the on-board audio on a chaintech 7NIF2 with the Nforce 2 chipset.

try checking your sage.properties file to ensure this line is set to true:

media_player_uses_system_volume=true

I just looked, and the line wasn't in the file, so I added it. It didn't do anything, though.

My system was run through an amplifier and the overall volume was set by the amp. If I increased the volume in the amp I could then control the volume through Sage. In other words I set the volume in the amp high and then lowered it in Sage. You might try raising the volume on the PC ( the speaker on the taskbar) and then controlling it through Sage afterwards. This is not the ideal solution but it might work better than opening nvMixer each time for volume change.

Just thought I'd reply this old thread in case anyone was having the same issues.

On advice from SageTV supports I changed it to "false" and now it works. Well, sometimes. Sometimes it just maxes out. Seems to change from boot to boot.

Note that volume control in all of my other apps (WMP, WinAmp, PowerDVD, Meedio) works.

Have you tried updating your sound card drivers?

Yep. And I'm using an NForce2-based motherboard, so it's not like I'm using obscure hardware.

Volume always maxed out

This forum was very helpful. I am using sagetv through my on-board sound card (which is hooked to my TV) while my other media player (meedio) is playing through my PCI slot sound card (which is hooked to my stereo). This way I can have the kids watching sage where the TV is while I can listen to my CD collection through my stereo in another part of the house (or outside on the deck! )

Once I changed media_player_uses_system_volume=false in my properties file I was able to control the volume for the TV from the sage interface.

However....

Now every time I change the channel and every time I leave the channel the same but a new show comes on - the Sage volume reverts to the maximum level and I need to race for the remote the lower it (it's loud! ). This set up is getting to be more annoying then when i needed to actually physcially get up and manually change the volume onthe TV itself!

Anyone have any ideas on why this is happening?

many thanks,

Scott

p.s. I searched around and do not see a property setting to set the "default" volume level - surely, there must be such a setting??
