Trial User? regarding keymaps

Hey All,

Im just giving sage tv a trial after nuking BTV off my system (I mean how can you possibly think cutting off a viewer just because the program has finished recording is a good idea for a pvr arggh). Anyhow Ive been tinkering with the setup of Sage, and aside from the irritating lack of no fast forward (10 sec increments chained together really doesnt count, but this is alot less severe than the BTV issue) it seems a little better.

The only problem im having right now is that I would like to map multiple actions to a single key.

For example I would like to map SkipFwd#2 and Cursor Right to the same keystroke (in this case Right cursor). Similarly I would like to map Pause/Play the same way (to both the pause and play buttons).

The problem Im having is that the gui will only allow certain events to have multiple mappings although for the life of me I dont understand why.

Is there a way to turn off the auto unlinking of actions?

Thanks

Adam

For the keyboard: If you link a key to a command, it will unlink that key from its previous command, as you've seen, so you can't link the same key to multiple commands. There are some dual-purpose commands built in, so you could check those. But, you can do the opposite & map multiple keys to the same command, which is what it sounds like you want for pause/play. (Perhaps you could use the keyboard for Girder input? I never looked into that.)

For a remote: If using the Hauppuage remote, you could edit irremote.ini (in your Windows directory) and have the same button send multiple keys or event code messages, in effect causing it to send multiple commands. You could do the same thing using Girder by having it also send multiple event code mesages.

Is there any chance on getting a list of the commands that will share keystrokes. I'm trying to build a map for my learning remote, and it doesn't handle Ctr- and Alt- combinations off of my IR keyboard well at all. Thanks!

You can check the v2.1 manual for all the commands, starting on p. 153. All the commnds listed as "X & Y" perform both X and Y commands. Or, you could download the zip files for the new Hauppuage remote from the Hauppauge links in my sig lines: link 1/post 3 or link 3/post 15 -- they both include an Excel file listing all commands.

If you mean you want to assign the same key to multiple single commands, you can't.

Thanks for the clarification. I have the manual, I just missed that section. Too bad about not being able to double map some keys - that's going to make life very difficult. It would have been nice for the DVD transport keys to overlap more, but I can understand wanting the ability to seperate them.

I'm left having to encroach on the normal keys (A-Z) to handle some of the mappings. Are there commands I can assign these to so they won't interfere with typing for searches and such? I will of course be using trial and error, but it would be nice to have some guidance to keep me from any land-mines.

Thanks again!

Wow, I'm glad I didn't suggest using the a - z letters... since I would have forgotten about conflicting with the ability to type in searches & such. If the remote can't learn those alt+ and ctrl+ (& shift+?) key combos, I'm not too sure what to suggest about continuing to use the keyboard's IR receiver, since playback commands can work almost anywhere due to being able to have video playing behind the menus.

I'm assuming you don't distinguish between upper and lower case letters, and only check for the shift flag for shifted commands, right?

Well, I distinguish betwen them, but SageTV doesn't seem to do so. By looking at the results shown in Setup -> Detailed Setup -> Commands -> Show SageTV Commands ..., you can see exactly what it recognizes.
