How to Customize SageTV?

hoping for some help

how do I get ahold of this sage tv studio or how do I get into the beta so I can get this studio

don't get me wrong for a tivo replacement the interface is VERY nice and clean

but I hate it with a passion. can not stand it :-)

I want a HIGH RES interface. I want guide data 6 hour wide 15+ channels tall. I want a guide grid that will full utilize the 1024x768 res I am using on this server machine and its ONLY that low because the LCD monitor native res is xga if I can do this remotely I want 1880x1400 (my desktop resolution)

I am NEVER 10 foot away when doing this :-) I am 12 inches away and desire to USE the screen resolution I have)

is this possible ? can I DESIGN a HIGH res interface ? IS there a high res interface already. does not have to be a TV interface in fact I have NO NEED to see or be near the TV part of it while doing this. overlay is bad (can not do overly via Remote Log in programs :-)

is there a WINDOWS program that can access the EPG data let me pick programs to record and favorites to set up all from outside of sage tv ??

IE to be honest I have no real need to access any kind of sage "TV" interface. if I want to watch tv I load up wintv2kon the main desktop etc... the sole job of sage for me is to permit multi tuner recording :-)

the 10 foot interface is a hinderance to this it makes it very cumbersome to dig around the epg data etc.. and pick what I want to record ESPECIALLY because of how "slow" the interface is in responce time etc..

the 10 foot interface is a neccessary evil when you want to interface from a tv or well from 10 feet :-)

is there a viable alternative for sage tv when you have no need to be 10 feet away ?

Currently Studio is only available to OEMs and not to the public. It sounds like to me that Sage and other PVR programs that utilize the "10 foot interface" is not what you're really looking for. A lot of people are using these programs for their Home Theater and thus are outputting to TV's or HDTV's. Thus the need for the 10 foot interface. I'm not sure there is a PVR program out there that is going to let you modify it for a 6 hour wide, 15 channel tall EPG.

alas sage is my only hope :-) its the only setup so far that will do the following (all things I need)

Multi Tuner
Mpeg1
Favorites

So fingers crossed. 6x15 is ideal but right now I get less than 2x5 !! there has got to be something inbetween :-)

Will this studio eventually be made available to all of us ?

Or what about the possibility of a windows program seperate from sage that can access the EPG information and inject recordings and favorites ?

I envision something like a mix between Titan TV and the ATI epg

big high res dense grid and I right click to record or add to favorites etc..

is such a thing even possible ?

For the EPG, you could always try changing these properties:

ui/epg_num_cols - num columns in the LiveTV EPG
ui/epg_num_rows - num rows in the LiveTV EPG

You may or may not like the results. I use 9 rows of channels & changed my MalDude2 STV so that channel names/logos only take up a single line instead of two. But, the show info columns may not be that readable when stretched out to a lot more than a 1.5 hour period.

"where" do I put these lines ? :-)

also is there anway to get higher than 640x480 ? (I see 640x480 and 320x240 as options)

is there a section of the site of manual thst specifically goes over these things like this that I can change especially detailed instructions on what files to edit and how to edit them and what NOT to touch :-) hehe

They should already exist in the properties file.

The quick_menu_sizes property is listed on p. 179. But, if you go full screen, it will simply use the full res of that monitor.

In the manual, do you mean something like: Appendix A: SageTV Properties Settings? It doesn't say what NOT to touch, but I would save a copy of your files before trying to change things.

You can get a huge EPG grid (up to 24 hrs wide, up to 999 channels high) using tiny fonts using my webserver plugin... It only has limited features (manual record only, no favorites management), but I do plan to release an updated version sometime soon)

Regarding studio (the UI customisation tool), the latest public information is here but it is a very hot topic...

Just curious but why exactly are they not releasing the studio to a larger audience ?

does it have issues or the potential to compromise something ??

its annoying because (assuming it does not require programming since if it does I am SOL :-) it sound like the studio can solve almost ALL my problems !

yes your webserver plugin on my 1880x2400 primary desktop is VERY SWEET :-)

I just need to figure out how to get your webserver modified so I can better view it on my zodiac :-)

Actually nobody really knows for sure... There was a *lot* of speculation in that thread, and people were reading much further into Dan's comment than perhaps was justfied (and then they wonder why Frey never say anything!).
