I changed my decoder back to FFDSHOW and turned on deinterlacing while pointing it at the DScaler4 directory and selecting a filter. I can't tell if that is actually doing anything.

I understand the points about the Tivo PQ. I guess I was returning to the point that if I'd taken advantage of a Tivo rebate deal and a yearlong subscription I'd have been out about $250 vs. the $750-$800 I've spent now. I'd have been to the gym about 30 more times (yeah, right and spent more time with my family. Then I'd have spent the $500 difference later on to get a better rig with more mature HTPC apps (Sage is already good . You're right - if you can spend just enough money (which appears to be somewhere between $750 and $1000 currently) you can get a superior near-HD quality recorder and DVD player out of your HTPC.

I think addressing the CPU is key. As soon as these P4 3.4 or Athlon 64 3500 become more affordable, pairing one with FFDSHOW generates the best picture for me.
