ConvertXPVR PX-TV402U and Sage

I can't get the Sage program to change channels from me when I hook up the box to my DirectTV box here in Los Angeles area. I get whatever channels is playing but when I ask it to watch or record I get no change.

What am I doing wrong? The ConvertX has a tuner in it but I don't know if it is supposed to be changing that tuner or the tuner on the Direct TV box. I don't have any remote control hookups to the box so I'm thinking I would just get the tuner in the Plextor box to change channels for me so I can watch or record but I'm a little baffled as to how this thing works.

Any help appreciated.

It works very similar to how a vcr would work. Can a stock vcr change the channel on a cable or satellite set top box? Unfortunately not.

What you need is an IR emitter to send the channel change codes to your stb. Frey sells the USB-UIRT (most popular) and the Actisys. Or you can shop around online and find them potentially cheaper.

So without the IR Emitter I can't schedule TV shows to be recorded on different channels even though there is a tuner in the Plextor box?

You're saying that Sage will send out a signal to my DirectTV box to change channels so it can do the recording?

What good is having a Tuner if it doesn't change channels for you?

I wish I would have known that when I placed my order and I'd have had one sent. They didn't sell that in the bundle on the Frey site. I thought the remote, the box and Sage would be enough.

Thanks for the quick answer.

The tuner on the Plextor is used when connecting directly to a cable source, just like when using a TV: If you connect the TV to the cable, you can change the channel on the TV; if you connect the TV to a converter box (for DirecTV, in your case), you change the channel via the converter box.

I don't know much about serial control, but check to see if you can have serial control instead of having to use an IR blaster.
