UNC Paths not working with Service
Ok, I've browsed the forums and read all network drive threads I could find and I found none that helped me.
I just built a raid 5 array on a machine called Fawker. I created a folder called PVR on the root of the array and shared it as PVR with wide open permissions(I'll tighten the noose after this works). If I run as Sage as service it will not see the UNC folder I added(\\Fawker\PVR\Videos). It won't even see the mapped drive I have also. However, if I turn of the service and run it without that, it works fine and imports everything in the UNC import folder. I then changed back to service mode and tried to play one of the fiiles and it said that file doesnt exist on the drive any more. If I turn the service back off, it works fine. Anyone have any clue as to what the problem is? |

Is the service set to run as the 'LocalSystem' user, or does it use a real user account? (you can see this in the service control app, or in the system manager 'services' app).
(To access the network, the service needs to run as a real user, not LocalSystem) |

To go along with what nielm just said, see the bottom of p. 14 in the v2.1 manual for info about accessing network drives when using service mode. And: services can't access mapped drives at all.

... and if you get errors starting the service after entering the username/password in the service control app, try entering them in the Windows Services management console (you may need additional privilages assigned to the service user account)
(Right-click My Computer select Manage, Expand Services and Applications and select Services; Right-click Sage and select properties Enter the user/password in the Logon tab) |

My recent experience with this:
I had to use the Windows services manager to get the service to run under a user account. Wne using the sage service control ap, the service would not take the user change. |

I don't understand why the Sage service setup window hasn't been pulled from the distribution... it seems like Fool's Gold. I *know* Jeff is a conscientious developer. He must have his mind on other things (....and this could only be good for us ).

once the user is set up with run-as-service privilages. Of course it bombs the first time you try it after creating an account |

Fixing the applet to check/give the user run-as-service privilages is on the todo list apparantly...
