Technical Sonic Decoder question.
I had a problem in the past with my video freezing up and going in slow motion. It got to the point it would happen 4-5 times a day on it's own and almost everytime I tried to FF or FEW my way thru a pre-recorded video. The usual fix was to shut sage down and restart.
Answers I got from the forum (thanks for the input ) seemed to focus on my decoder/encoder choice as being the culprit. Switching seemed to help, but picture quality suffered. With a new install of WinXP SP2 and SAGE (from a newly formatted hard drive) I now have NO issues what so ever with the studering and slow motion, and I am using the same decoder. Sonic. I guess what I'm looking for is if there are any other software issues that could cause this, or if it's still my decoder, then why does it not do it on a fresh install? Could it be a SAGE issue or a JAVA issue? or even windows xp? If it's still the decoder, could someone explain why a fresh install seems to mask the problem for now? (it verywell may come back, I don't know, but I've had a SOLID Sage box now (NO glitches except working out a few issues on my own) when it comes to recording and playing back video. Thanks Raymond |

It may not be that a fresh install is masking the problems. It may be a fresh install "cleaned" everything out. Had you installed and uninstalled any other decoders beside your Sonic on the previous OS? Tuned and tweaked? Installed any helpful video accessories that you thought were cool but later uninstalled? I have seen similar issues after testing other decoders, utilities, apps, etc.

Good point, I did leave off FFDShow and some other "image enhancement" things I had tried. It also is my first time with XP SP2 installed. I also did update a few drivers.
I'm just happy it works! I need to back up this configuration now so I can get it back next time I screw it up. |
