5700Le(128-bit) Vs MX 4000(256-bit)

What are the advantages of a 256-bit Video card over a 128-bit card?
The 5700Le is a newer card, but I have heard that a 256-bit MX 4000 could out perform it (games, and multimedia) If this is true would it boost performance in Sage ( I currently have a eVGA MX 4000 64mb 128-bit)?

I do not think it is possible for an mx 4000 to out perform a 5700le in anything. The 5700 will give you better PQ in sage.

I also thought that all those mx 4000 were 64 bit... are you sure about it?

Yes, Mad Dog Multimedia has a 128mb 256-bit Geforce MX 4000. I saw this card at officemax and wanted to get a little more informaion about it.

But what is the performance diffrence between a 128-bit card and a 256-bit card?

The days where x-bits mean anything on a video card are long gone. Today, the performance of a video card is much more complicated, and affected by the core architecture and memory bandwidth. A GeForce4 MX regardless of memory width, probably cannot outperform a Geforce FX in anything. A Geforce 4Ti might have hope in games, but in video the 5 and especially 6 series from nVidia are leagues ahead of any of their previous chips.

So would the 64-bit version of the FX 5700le from apollo still out perform the MX 4000?

When it comes to sage and other video players, the speed has little to do with things. The fact that the 5700 has a much better TV out and is directx 9 compliant would be desirable. However in regards to a 64 bit 5700le, i dunno... I tried a 64 bit 5200 and was not happy with it's vmr9 performance, it stuttered and exhibitted image tearing. I'm very happy with my fx 5500 now, however I was sure to get the 128bit, just in case.

I also have an MX 440 that works very well with sage too, but the 5500 is sharper.

Are you using it for tv out?

IMO, you'd want at least a 5700 Ultra for that display.

The PC I Use Sage with is limited to PCI GPUs, so 5700Le is the end of the line (unless you know of a manufacture that makes a newer PCI card)
