Using different inputs from a single tuner card
Hello,
I am considering buiding a PVR with SageTV around Hauppauge PVR 150 card or so. I was wondering if, with one PVR 150, it is possible to define two different sources under SageTV: - 1 corresponding to the TV Tuner input, to which I will connect a cable source - 1 corresponding to the SVideo input, to which I will connect the output of my satellite STB. I understand that the card only has 1 MPEG encoder chip, and thus that I will only be able to record from 1 source at a given time, But maybe SageTV could manage this through its "conflict recordings" feature. If this not possible, then do you know whether there are some cards with video input (and no TV Tuner) supported by Sage TV. Otherwise, I will have to buy a PVR 150 card just for the Svideo input, ad will never use its TV tuner. Thanks for your help. |

this should work fine.

Yep. If you can use two different EPG lineups, it will simplify the process.

To connect 2 inputs on the same encoder, you have to use separate EPGs -- but since 1 is cable here & 1 is satellite, that shouldn't be an issue.
It has been a while since I looked into the details of this, but you might have to make sure that the lineups for both inputs don't share any channels. If adding the second source on the same encoder card removes the first source that you set up, then during the last step of setting up a source (Channel Setup), disable channels that are shared. (Sharing channels with multiple sources/EPGs is not an issue if the sources are on separate tuners.) - Andy

Since neufeld did not update.
Yes it works. In the beginning i had a strange problem, that the channels of the tuner were shifted e.g. channel 1 was showing channel 5. channel 2 was just static etc. But now it works. Marne |

I have another question. I have a PVR 150 right now running a Dish network receiver. If I would plug in an antenna to the other input I could record off of either. But could I watch something coming from the satellite and record from the antenna or vice versa at the same time? My initial thought is this will not work.

Being a newbie, I asked myself the exact same question. After browsing through some threads my understanding is that it won't work, because the PVR150 only has a single MPEG2 encoder chip, and since "viewing" in Sage is always equivalent to recording, this wouldnt be possible (of course correct me if I am wrong).
That's why I just ordered a second PVR 150 card, I really need this functionality ... -Dirk |

STB s-video or tuner based on channel number.
Quote:
I have a dual tuner PVR-500MCE from Hauppauge. I want to use the analog NTSC receiver on channels 1-99 and the STB s-video output on 100+ (for HBO, PPV, OnDemand, etc.). They would use the same EPG. How do I switch inputs based on channel number? I also need to set up a blaster to change the STB channels. Can I do this with a TIRA-2 and Girder? How do I get Sage to blast with Girder? I'd eventually like to use both tuners and watch analog TV and record digital or vice versa. I think I'll be switching to HDTV soon, so I'll add an HDTV QAM receiver and need to do this with 1-99 = analog, 100 and up = QAM, PPV etc. = s-video. Ideas? Also, I'd like to use analog HBO on Ch21 (calling it "HBO Analog") and relate it to the digital HBO that has identical programming through the EPG. Kind of like an alias? So, HBO = Ch602 D and Ch21 A and the EPG shows correct program data. Right now I have it working, but the Ch21 shows "No Data" How do I do this? Mike

Choose the Basic or Basic Extended EPG for the analog input and the Digital EPG for the STB output / s-video input.
You could delete channels 1-99 out of the Digital EPG lineup if you wanted them completely separate, but it isn't necessary.
