Software for quickly trimming videos?
What program would you recommend (preferably free) to trim my SageTV recordings? The ability to re-compress would be nice too, but isn't necessary.

without a doubt, i'd suggest using VideoReDo. google it. i've used it on my sage-created mpegs for over a year and i'ts great. written by a guy named dan. really nice and great support. he added a feature i requested (batch processing so i could set upa bunch of mpeg edits and let them run overnight.)
can process a whole 3hr mpeg2 movie in about 5 minutes. so i'd set up all the edits for about 5 recordings, and then let them all run. back from dinner, edits were finished. videoredo's main competitor may be a program called Womble, but i've never used it. there's one other prog (TMPENC ?), can't recall if it has similar function.? -fodder Last edited by mostlyfodder; 03-08-2005 at 11:10 PM. |

I'd used Womble for some time and then tried VideoRedo. While VideoRedo not free or even cheap, I like it far better than either Womble's mpeg-vcr or mpeg video wizard for com cutting.

My pref is TMPEGEnc to edit/make cuts. It is extremely fast on moving through the recording to find where you want to make your cuts, handles multi-cuts, and rewrites the file very fast. Great stuff!!

when I used to do vbr files videoredo was the only one that cut them properly (without knocking the audio off sync) and it was cheaper than the rest so I went with it. Im happy with it.

Yes Sage plays them but you lose the recorded data.
IE: the episode info and title. I think it puts it in the imported folder instead of the TV Recordings folder. |

Has anyone tried VirtualDub? I have used it some without any problems. If you have tried it, how does it compare with VideoReDo?
BTW VirtualDub is free!

I use VirtualDub for my commercial cutting. However, I shrink all my recordings to Xvid(AVI) first. It is super fast on the avi files. I can usually take out comms on a one hour show in less than 5 minutes total. But to use it on mpeg's you have to use VDUB_Mod version and it is SLLLOOOWWWW as a sleeping turtle in quicksand.....
I used to use mpeg-vcr for my mpeg files, more accurate and faster than TEMPGenc's MPEG Tools. I have yet to try VideoReDo. |
