Show called First Run even so it is Re-Run
This week the Tonight Show with Jay Leno is on re-run.
The guide says First Run - but it also says the original date was some time ago. I have selected First Runs Only under Favorites. The first two days this week it did not record, even so the guide says First Run - original air date some time back. Today again it says First Run and the original air date is some time ago, but it IS scheduled to record. This whole First Run - First Run and Rerun is very confusing to me. I have a local News show as Favorite, but if I say First Run Only, it does not record. I am using version 2.2.7. Thanks,

It sounds like the Tonight Show just doesn't have correct info from the EPG provider, unless they _really_ consider shows from the past couple weeks to still be First Runs.
The local news shows probably have just a SH style show ID (non-unique identifier that doesn't distiniguish between separate episodes) & has no data for individual episodes. Therefore, they are also probably all marked as a ReRun originally aired years ago. - Andy

I've been seeing alot of reruns of various shows marked as first-run over the past couple of weeks. They have original air dates that are probably correct, but for some reason they are still marked as first-runs.

I'm having this problem too. I noted a Sex and the City episode on last night marked First Run. That's definately not right as no episode of that show is new anymore. I thought it was a fluke, but I noticed quite a few shows marked First Run that obviously weren't, including a 10 year old episode of Law and Order on Bravo.
If it means anything I'm running Cayar 17. Maybe that has something to do with it. |

It sounds like its the EPG providers problem. I've seen this happen on my friends Tivo as well. Sage does its best to try to record what you want it to record, but if the EPG data is wrong then there isn't to much you can do about that. This is a common problem with all pvrs.

I'm using cayers 17 too. Next time I see something mislabeled, I'll switch back to OriginalV2 to verify. |

Well..It's not a cayers problem. I just switched to the OriginalV2 STV and it still claims that the 8pm showing of battlestar galactica is a first run. Even though the original air date say march 15th 2005. I guess Zap2It just has a lot of bad data lately.

There was a Simpsons on last night that said it had an original air date of 1996 and also was also listed as a first run. The way I see it, if the original air date does not equal the current date, it probably isn't a first run.

I've encountered this also, and its unfortunate... I was thinking that maybe "First Run" means something different to different providers -- like perhaps, "first time we've shown this on our channel", but it is obviously either more complex, or more fuzzy than that alone.

Are you guys using XML feeds for EPG? If so then it would be pretty easy to write a program to parse the XML looking for first runs that have an original air date that isn't today and change them to re-runs.
Of course if you're not using XML and Sage is getting data directly from an EPG provider this doesn't help. Nick.

The DigiCasa plugin can compensate for bad firstrun/rerun data in a lot of situations. In the zap2itconfig.xml file change the "RerunLogic" setting to "aggressive" (see the readme file for exact details) and most rerun/firstrun problems should go away. One undocumented feature is that the DigiCasa plugin also works if you live in the USA. So you can switch to using the DigiCasa plugin if you are having a lot of problems with firstrun/rerun logic and see if it helps you out. Cheers Lester

Tried DigiCasa plugin, still no luck
I live in the U.S. and I tried the plugin, but still to no avail, I changed the rerun login to aggressive too. Any ideas? The only thing I didn't do from the installation directions is enter the certificate code you asked because I was already a registered member from when I use to use GBPVR, so I don't know if that had anything to do with it. I love SageTV so far, my only dilemma being that it records reruns as firstruns even if I have only firstruns selected, because thats how my epg has it listed, so I know Sage can't really do anything about it. (the original air date is always listed right though)
