Move a show from Sage to Imported Library

What is the correct way to remove a show from Sage and just have it in an Imported Library area?

Do I just move the file??? I know this works, but does it leave any dead references in the database?

What Is the preferred way to do this?

You can simply move the file. If you use "Move To Library", it will leave the file where it is at, but move the listing to the Archived Recordings screen... but you may already know that & don't want that.

If you move the file to a lib dir, the db entry for the show may stay around for a while... or it may not. If there is any history for that show (watched, don't like, etc), it will remain in the db. SageTV _might_ see the lib file and know it used to be a recording & keep the db info (not entirely sure about that), but if you rename it, it will definitely no longer be linked to the db entry.

Yes I did know this but wasn't sure if it was recommended or supported. I just didn't want to cause a bunch of dead links in the database so I thought I'd check first before I do it. I need to move about 300 shows out of Sage into a permanent external library. They'll then be available as imported media.

Glad to hear that Sage will "remember" the watched status so these things wont get recorded again.

Thanks for the repsonse Opus! Much appreciated.

I move files regularly with no apparent side effects. I let sage recod files to one network share and then move the ones I want to keep to other directories on other shares. I do the moves on the server as it is faster and I can not accidentally delete "migrated" shows from sage as it only has update access to the recording share.

Is there a way to change the actual file location in Sage? For example, when I select "move to library" can it be setup in such a way that it will copy the file to another drive in the system? Wasn't sure if there was a setting in the properties file to allow this. Thanks,

-matt

SageTV does not physically move any recordings. That would have to be done manually, via a batch/app run from some custom command in an STV that supports using external commands, or via a custom STV written to actually move a file.
