Audio rendering problem with DVD playback

I have recently set up my htpc and am having a few problems with my sageTV software. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I get the following error when trying to playback DVDs:

"There was a playback error in playback. Details:
sage.playbackexception: ERROR (-5,0x80040218): There was a problem
rendering the audio portion of the content for playback."

It occurs with every DVD, and when Sage attempts to initialize the DVD playback, it flashes program info from "Watch Live TV" for a split-second before I get the error.

DVDs play normally through Windows Media Player 9. Also, SageTV will play my MP3s normally as well.

I am currently using the NVIDIA DVD decoder that came bundled with my SageTV from pcalchemy.com

My system is as follows:

MSI Neo 4 ultra Motherboard with AMD 64 3200+ processor
1 GB RAM
540 GB total HD space
Hauppauge PVR-500 video tuner card (using the primary S-video input from dish network sat box)
MSI 6600 GT output video card (via vga to LCD monitor)
Sony 16x Double layer internal DVD-RW drive'
Audio - SPDIF (optical) output to my Stereo receiver
Windows XP pro OS, SageTV 2.2

Again, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, timthesorcer.

You set the audio decoder in Detailed Setup -> DVD, right? Have you tried changing it to another decoder?

Thanks for the input. As far as I can tell, everything is configured correctly and yet I still get the error message. My audio settings are as follows:

Audio Renderer: Realtek AC97 Audio

(other selections include: "Default", "Default DirectSound Device", "Default WaveOut Device", and "DirectSound: Realtek AC97 Audio")

MPEG 2 Audio Decoder Filter: NVIDIA Audio Decoder

(other selections: "MPEG Audio Decoder", "SageTV MPEG Audio Decoder")

Audio playback delay(ms): 0

My DVD settings are as follows:

DVD Video Renderer: VMR9 (I am using a MSI 6600 GT)

DVD Video Decoder Filter: NVIDIA video decoder

(other selections include "default", "NVIDIA Video Post Processor", and "SageTV MPEG Video Decoder")

DXVA DVD MPEG Mode: Default

DXVA DVD Deinterlacing: Default

DVD Audio Decoder Filter: NVIDIA Audio Decoder

(other selections include: "Default", "MPEG Audio Decoder", and "SageTV MPEG Audio Decoder")

Audio Renderer: Realtek AC97 Audio

(other selections include: "Default", "Default DirectSound
Device", "Default WaveOut Device", or "DirectSound: Realtek AC97 Audio")

Thanks again, any further assistance would be greatly appreciated.

If you're going SPDIF out try setting your DVD Audio decoder to Default Waveout device.

Make sure that in the Decoder settings (not Sage) the decoder is set to S/PDIF output.

Thanks again, I feel I'm getting closer. I installed InterVideo WinDVD creator (bundled with my MSI video card) and the intervideo codecs showed up in Sage. I chose to use them and I finally get DVD playback!! However, no sound... I tried to set the device to WaveOut but that didn't help.

How do I set the decoder setting to SPDIF output (out of Sage)?

Thanks,

timthesorcerer

Probably the easiest way (for the audio decoder) is to download the Radlight filter manager, go find the audio decoder (under Directshow Filters I believe), and then set it in there.

Thank you all for your help. I was finally able to find the NVIDIA audio settings to activate the SPDIF output for DVD playback. I also reinstalled sageTV and it is functioning perfectly using the NVIDIA DVD decoders for DVD playback.
