Question Best way to install a new version

I saw SageTV 2.2.8 is released. Just wondering: how do you do your upgrade?
- Uninstall just SageTV and install the new one?
- Uninstall SageTV and everything else like STV's, XMLTV, jave, etc. and do a clean install of everything
- Just install the new SageTV over the current one.
- ....

Make a backup copy of your existing installation (or at least the data files) & install over the top of the original install. See this FAQ entry, but note that the installer will automatically uninstall the old version before installing the new one.

I shutdown sage, perform an image of the system drive (I like ghost), install any needed Java updates, then install the updated sage program. I then reboot the machine and makes sure everything launches automatically.
