Question Easy way to delete a watched show?

Hi Everybody,

I have been using SageTV with a Hauppauge PVR-150 for about a week and really like it. The one thing that I can't seem to figure out is an easy way to delete a show after I finish watching it.

I have a Replay and a Digital Cable (Motorola) DVR. Both of these devices bring up a window when a show finishing playing or if I stop playing it (by pressing the stop button) asking if I want to delete it. Is there something similar I can enable for SageTV?

Right now when I finish watching a recorded show, I do the following to delete it:
1. Bring up Main Menu
2. Select SageTV Recordings
3. Select the show folder
4. Select the show
5. Bring up the info window for the show
6. Select Delete Now
7. Confirm

Is there an easier way? Should I add a button to my Pronto that marks the show as watched and let SageTV delete it? I would appreciate any advice.

IIRC the SageMC 169 STV brings up an option to delete shows after watching them.

And you could always map the Delete function to your remote, but you would still have to do steps 1-4.

Actually if you press the button before the show stops playing I think a window will pop up asking you to confirm the deletion and you don't have to go through the other steps.

Of course you have to be quick on the button depending upon how much padding you have at the end of the show.

I highly suggest the SageMC 169 STV, and not for just the delete option at the end of the show. It makes Sage more pleasant to use IMO.

nope, you can hit Delete (the key, or a remote button you have mapped to Delete) in the full screen TV window to delete the currently playing media file. Sage will also automatically mark it as watched if you have played more than a certain percentage of the file. You can also hit delete when the show is highlighted in the Sage Recordings list

Other ways (from full screen TV window): Options (mouse rightClick/Esc/Some remote button); Detailed Info; Delete.

I am also working on a plugin that like SageMC will display a choice of options for what to do when you hit Stop (delete will be one of those choices)

Thats pretty nifty - never knew that. I agree though - SageMC 16x9 is the way to go.

You can also use Back while watching the show to return to where you were when you started playing it & do anything you want with the show at that point.

Thanks to all who replied.

I think I will give the SageMC 16x9 STV a try. I am still using the default STV. I figured I should get used to it before I tried one of the custom ones. That way I would know that SageTV was stable on my machine and any problems I had weren't due to a STV.

Thanks again,

I havent used that skin, so I can't comment on that, but I will suggest that you revisit the standard functionality -- I think if you look at the "mapping commands" area you will find that you can probably link delete to a remote button in a convenient way

I just put a link on my desktop to the folder that holds my recorded shows. Open it, highlight the file and hit delete. Voila!

That's not a very good solution, especially considering there is a very simple solution that can be done within Sage. Not very convienent with a remote control either.

No, but considering the poster asked for an easier way to delete shows than having to:

1. Bring up Main Menu
2. Select SageTV Recordings
3. Select the show folder
4. Select the show
5. Bring up the info window for the show
6. Select Delete Now
7. Confirm

I don't think minimizing Sage, opening a desktop shortcut, then scrolling through possibly several hundred shows in order to delete a watched one is a practical solution. Not only would it be more time consuming, but it would probably require the use of a mouse or keyboard or some other way to control the desktop environment. Considering all you need to do is map one key on the remote to the delete command then press it once the show is over or use one of the custom STVs or STV modules to add the menu that gives you the option to delete once the show is over.

I guess I just don't see the need to create a work around solution for a problem that is very easy to take care off within Sage.

I just mapped one of my remote control buttons from within Sage to activate the delete screen. So when the video is full screen hit the "delete" button and then "Yes" (Delete).

If you want a little quicker way to navigate through the list of shows, link a remote key to the Sage Recordings command, link the page up and down commands (if you don't have any extra keys for the commands use the channel up/page up and the down one as well so that they channel buttons serve double duty) and of course link the delete command as well.

Then all you have to do is:

1. Press Sage Recordings Button
2. Scroll through the list of shows one page at a time.
3. Press the Delete button once the show is highlighted.
4. Confirm the deletion.

This makes browsing through your shows, whether to choose one to watch or delete, a little quicker. There are plenty of ways to speed up the most common tasks you do in Sage by simply linking the commands you use most often to the remote.
