What hardware is needed for HDTV streaming?
I'm looking into getting the Avermedia A180 card to replace my aging AccessDTV card.
I'm wondering what other hardware upgrades I'll need to do in order to get it all working. My server, where the card will go is: 933Mhz Pentium3 250 Happauge card All it does is record shows, I never watch anything on it. My client box is a: MainBoard - NFORCE2 A7N8X-VM ASUS CPU - AMD Athlon XP 2500+ Barton 333MHz FSB Memory - crucial 256MB 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 333 (PC 2700) x 2 I'm currently using the integrated graphics board to drive my projector at 1360x768. I'm thinking that I'll may need a new graphics card? If so, any recommendations on a low-profile AGP card? I believe the integrated card is a Nvidea Geforce 4 MX. I'm thinking this may be long in the tooth, and it eats up memory bandwidth. I'm using the Elecard or Sonic decoders currently. Elecard for TV as I use the DScaler de-interlace, and Sonic for DVDs. Both machines are wired with 100Mb cards. Wondering if Gigabit and new hub would be needed. Thanks for the input, |

If you go with a DXVA decoder (like Sonic) you might be fine as-is.

OK,
I was looking at a NVIDIA FX5500 with 128MB ram. But I'll just get the A180 card instead and give it a shot. I've really like the Sonic decoders for DVD playing, so maybe they will work well with the ts streams. |
