Flashing white and dark spots on top of tv image
I have a Hauppaugge 150 pci tuner card, and SageTV v 2.2. With most progarams and channels, there is a group of white and black flashing pixels at the very top of the image. I have looked at this forum, and tried to fix the problem through the detailed settings--overscan and aspect ratio menus as one post suggested.
The problem is still there on both fullscreen and minimized images. The weak pvr software that came with my card does not do this, and neither does Beyond TV, so I think it is a problem with the SAGETv program or settings. Anyone else have this problem, or know how to fix it? The problem occurs while trying to watch on my Sony 17" lcd monitor, have not tried to watch over tv, or burn yet. I don't know what that line is exactly... But I would put money on it being data of some sort... SAP, CC, something. Normally it's in the overscan area and you'd never see it. But it's still there. Just adjust your overscan offsets in advanced setup and you'll never see it again.

If it is in the overscan portion of the video that is normally not displayed on a TV, change the Aspect Ratio Settings' Stretch values to something larger than 100% so that portion of the video is not shown inside the SageTV window. (However, it may or may not be an issue when viewed on the TV; it may only be a monitor viewing issue. Try it where you plan to do most of your viewing.)
The Overscan Settings is not what you want to change here, since it doesn't actually affect the video display; it affects the UI placement & sizing. The terminology seems a little confusing here, but the UI needs to be resized and/or repositioned due to the TV's overscan when viewing SageTV on a TV. - Andy

That's what I meant. I was just too lazy to look up the exact terminology.

The stretch option seemed to fix the lines on my monitor. I am quite a newb to SageTv and using my machine as a HTPC in general. If I stretch the settings, will I burn dvd's at the stretch setting, and will it show on my set top dvd player?
In addition to being new, I am also a cheap SOB, and don't really want to waste a dvr if I am going to get bad results. Also, my quality at full screen is very bad. It looks pretty good if I shrink down the window. Is this a function of using a monitor instead of tv? Last edited by Mongo8269; 07-19-2005 at 11:19 PM. |
