Odd question

This may seem insignificant, but I'm just wasting time until V3 is released! See attached jpeg - why is my bookmark for Frey Forums a Google "G"? I would expect the little 3 circle thing. This is in the bookmark pane on Firefox - same thing on IE6. Just wondering. Right below it is Froogle, a service of Google. Any ideas?

Hey - at least it has been updated from what it used to be.

sometimes windows' icon cache gets messed up. You'll notice the same thing occasionally in the quicklaunch bar and the start menu and the desktop icons as well.

You might be able to "fix" this by going to your display properties -> appearance -> advanced. Click on "Icon" in the drop down box and change the size by 1 either way. Hit ok on both display property boxes and windows will rebuild the icon cache. You can then change the size back if you want and it will rebuild it one more time. That should restore icons. In your favorites it MIGHT reset the icon to a white blank page, or it might not reset it at all... IE icons are a bit different than windows icons. Sometimes I've seen it work and other times it doesn't.

Personally, my sage icon in firefox is CNN's icon. I just ignore it.

They are called favicons btw in browsers and are usually stored right in the root of the site...

There's sage's. How to get that to change in your bookmarks however... I'll see if I can dig up that info.

Favicons! It doesn't bother me, I was just curious how I ended up with a G. Aren't they changing the url to sageforums or something?

dunno about that...

Just fiddle-farted around with mine since mine was screwy too.

I can't find anything anywhere about it other than that it's a known bug in firefox/mozilla and they have no idea how to fix it.

I did a little sleuthing of my own though and in the bookmarks file in application data, the icons are base64 encoded right into the bookmarks file itself. Why it doesn't save the icon sometimes is anyone's guess, but I'm guessing you could make them anything you want if you want to spend the time base64 encoding your own icons.

ICON="data:image/png;base64,

that's the code to look for.

I have firefox 1.0+ and I have the ability to change the icon for my bookmarks (go to "Manage Bookmarks"), but when I go to choose the favicon from the post above, firefox pops up an error that the file size is too large... Oh well, I tried
