Sony XBR TV setup using component video converter
I am sharing here for posterity the settings I use for my Sage TV setup, which makes use of a Sony XBR 32 inch TV with first generation component video input, in conjunction with a component video converter. I have no idea if anybody will find this useful, but since one person asked me privately about it, I figured it wouldn't hurt to share, especially since some of these settings took days to tune (note that actual settings would obviously vary set to set, but this might be a useful starting point for someone with similar equipment).
I have the following setup, which works VERY well. I am using an ATI 9600 SE card in conjunction with a Key Digital KD-VTCA3 VGA to Component Video Adapter. I run the VGA input into the converter, which is setup for SCART composite sync on H. I then use PowerStrip to carefully setup the video card for compatiblity with the TV. The following are the settings 640x480 resolution 29Hz Custom Timing Composite Sync Interlaced + Horizontal Sync + Vertical Sync 12.937MHz Pixel Clock Horizontal settings 15.549 KHz Active 640 49.471 FP 41 3.169 SW 64 4.947 BP 87 6.725 Total 832 64.312 Vertical settings 29.902 Hz Active 480 30.870 FP 0 0.00 SW 28 1.801 BP 12 0.772 Total 520 33.442 Before setting the PowerStrip settings, I had also gone into the Sony internal menus ([PWR OFF] [DISP] [5] [VOL+] [PWR ON]) on the TV and done some modifications, tuning it using the Video Essentials DVD. Though they may be different on your set (certainly the fine tuning would be), here are the settings I changed Setting Old New VAPI 15 0 VAPG 4 0 SHPF 2 3 Y-DC 1 0 SSHP 7 7 SBRT 31 27 SCOL 6 10 SHUE 5 8 SCON 10 5 BCUT 14 3 GCUT 8 2 BDRV 34 25 GDRV 36 19 PPHA 4 5 LPIN 4 6 UPIN 3 4 PAMP 27 28 HSIZ 42 33 HPOS 11 14 VSIZ 28 17 VPOS 28 32 I also had to make some settings different from the factory resets in the general picture settings (the ones people usually use from the XBR menu) Main HUE centered Main Color 3 clicks beyond "R" in "COLOR" Main Sharpness between "H" and "A" in "SHARPNESS" Hope this helps (if you even still have the set). I'm going to copy this out to the general discussion folder for other's use (if they have any use for it...) Jim Heck |
