Closed Caption Support for 3.0?
I have a Hauppauge 250 card and cannot seem to enable captions with SageTV 3.0. Any guidance?
Thanks, Rob |

I don't think the Hauppauge 250 currently supports closed captioning, does it?

BTW: the 'unsupported' CC comments in Appendix K of the v3 manual should still apply, so it should work with a 250 if the conditions in that appendix are met.

Thanks. I am using the PVR-250. I haven't taken any steps other than to install the Hauppauge drivers and SageTV 3.0.
I'll review Appendix K in the 3.0 manual. -------- Follow-Up Note: I removed the previous version of SageTV and did a clean install with 3.0. I enabled the cc_option and installed the latest Intervideo WinDVD 7.0 product. I configured Sage to use VMR9 instead of Overlay and to use the Intervideo Decoders for both Video and Audio. Voila! The closed captions work perfectly. Thanks! Last edited by RAlfieri; 08-08-2005 at 02:40 PM. |

I have never recorded closed captioned program, but was curious how it works. If you turn closed captioning on, do the captions become part of the MPEG video? In other words, once the program is recorded with CC, there is no way to watch the recording without captions?
Thank you! R |

The closed captions do not become part of the video. They are just a text stream that is embedded with the other streams in the recording file. You can turn them on or off during playback.

That is a great news, thank you. Would MPEG-2 file with CC stream be still considered "standard" MPEG? So if I use a DVD authoring app (Nero or Ulead), are they able to deal with the CC stream to create DVD-video compatible recording?
If that works, I would probably try to exchange my PVR-150 for 250 if Hauppauge doesn't add that functionality to PVR-150. |
