We aren't the target market of this box I imagine, I'd imagine the target market is people like my friend at work. This is something I'd recommend to him. Something with most of the benefits of an HTPC, but the ease of setup/use of a STB.

Understood on the disclaimer. I appreciate any info you can give and won't hold the Sage folk responsible unless you specify you are stating "official" information.

I've left a message with their tech support. Hopefully they can answer my questions satisfactorily prior to shipment.

Oh, and no I have no idea what I'm doing in Linux! Hopefully there will be very little looking under the hood into Linux's guts and I'll just be able to either set it up to use network encoders, or substitute and/or add the Sage Client to the system to do what I want.
I'm also hoping it will come with a System Restore CD/DVD so I can recover if (when?) I make a big mistake.

Maybe it's time to fire up that old cpu I've got and install Linux to play around with it before the new system arrives. Guess I'll have to inquire which flavour of Linux they are using on their system so I can use the same one.
That way I can figure out all the REALLY big No-No's before the new system arrives!

I'll pop in here from time to time with any new info.

I got a reply from Tech support over at VWB, the gist of which was that the MediaREADY 5000 will work as a Sage Client. Let's hope that is right, we'll see when the unit arrives.

I would buy this, knowing it can do HD as a client. Being able to Burn DVD's and having the nice look are what make me want it.

Way cheaper and has the Sigma Chipset in it. No HD or tuner needed for a client. I would be stoked if this would work for a client.

Exactly why I'm looking at the MediaREADY 5000. I have a Roku HD1000/PhotoBridge and can already view recordings from my Sage box, but without the interface I don't find myself doing that a lot.

I also have a MediaMVP in the bedroom so I'll be comparing how the 5000 compares to that. It's a lot more $$$ so I'm hoping for a lot more capabilities, features, etc.

I just want to buy the hardware (minus the tuners) so I can use it to build a Windows-based Sage client. There's obviously some specially written code to operate things such as that CE-like VFD so that would also have to be ported. I would also need DVI out @ 720p for my HDTV and enough power to play HD recordings from the Fusions I will be buying for the server. Hmm, I guess I really just want the slick looking box and VFD.

Oh well, I can dream can't I?

I called VWB today to ask about the status of my order placed a bit over a month ago.
They said they were "in the air" to them and they should be getting them early this coming week and that all the backlog of orders (not that many backlogged) should go out by the middle to end of the week.

So hopefully by the middle or end of this coming week I'll get a ship confirmation and can start watching for the delivery truck.

Just got an Email from VWB stating that my MediaReady 5000 will ship tomorrow (9/23). Their saying 3-5 working days for it to arrive, so probably about this time next week I should have it.
