what decade was your price from? I do remember when projectors cost 20K, and required annual servicing to have the beams refocused/calibrated. if you have that one it may be time to replace it.

Hi Mike,

His figures aren't too far off, even now. The best digital projector currently made is considered by most to be the Sony Qualia. Last I checked it was in the $25k range. Bulb cost was on the average of $2 per hour of use.

As for the CRT projectors you mentioned, I have one. Most were actually priced in the $20-$45,000 range. The beam focus isn't a requirement, most owners do it themselves. They do still produce what is generally accepted as being the best picture that can be obtained in a home theater (although digitals are getting closer). The nice thing is that they can be had today for well under $5k for a top of the line machine, if you know where to look.

Please... tell me where to look. I'm looking for a good price on a Sony G90. The best I've found thus far is 20,000 bux.

Hi Kanati,

G90 huh? You've got some deep pockets! I don't know of any available off the top of my head, but when I have seen them they are in the neighborhood of $10-$14k. This would be used of course, since they are no longer made. You can, however get roughly equal performance from the 9-inch Marquees, the Ampro 4600 series (I know of several for about $5k), etc.

If you are interested, one of the members at AVS forum is also a dealer and one of the most knowledgable techs anywhere on these types of projectors. I bought mine from him, and would gladly do so again. Go to his website and take a look at some of the wealth of infomation there. Also, stop by AVS forum and have a look in the CRT projector forums. Great people and info there as well.

I hope this helps!

Another reputable CRT dealer (Chuchuf) at AVS has a coupe G70s and a couple G90s.

Two G70 with brand new factory tubes that will sell for $5K plus shipping.

Two G90's that will sell for $12.5K with brand new tubes.

PM me and I will get you his contact information.
