OT: Need advice on relocating to near Long Beach, CA area
Well, it is possible that I may be relocating to the Long Beach area. Technically, I would be working in Wilmington - but from wht I hear that isn't that great of a place to live.
Although I will be budget limited (like most people), I'm trying to find a condo or something relatively close. Cerritos/Los Alamitos is as far west as I want to go... anything on the west is close enough. I need some opinions on areas though... Crime statistics by themselves don't tell the whole story. Looking around, it seems there are some condos in the following places that I could 'afford' (more like still eat bologne after purchasing): 1. Long Beach (various neighborhoods) - need to know which areas to specifically avoid... 2. Cerritos - Not sure how long the commute would be to my place of work though... Looks like you would take 91 to 110 S to get to work. Any thoughts on how that commute would be? 3. Los Alamitos - Not sure how getting to work would be from here either.. No real direct route there. 4. Rancho Palos Verdes - Not much here I can afford, but I saw one or two. Seems like the commute would be OK. 5. San Pedro - Crime statistics are awful here though... Commute would be good. 6. Torrance. Couple of options, but not sure on crime/neighborhoods. Anyway, if anyone could give me some tips, it would really help. I've been to L.A. are a few times, but don't know specific areas well enough to know what I'm doing. Jason |

How much are you looking to spend?
How much time are you willing to sit in traffic? What are your work hours? T. |

Long Beach is not bad, but it has areas that are. It's a pretty big city, so I guess that's fairly normal. Avoid North Long Beach, maybe stay close to Belmont Shore, Belmont Heights or even Lakewood.
Cerritos and Cypress are worth looking at. Should be affordable and the commute wouldn't be to bad, although I don't know where in Wilmington you need to be. BTW, Wilmington is not where you want to live. Torrance is pretty decent, so is Redondo Beach. Traffic? Yes, no matter where you go there will be plenty of traffic. I live in Long Beach and my wife grew up here. Feel free to PM me if you want any specific info. Happy to help if I can. |
