running epg of windows scheduled task...

hello friends,

I'm not sure its the right place (or forum), but since we are all using epg updates and sage i thought maybe someone had this problem.

i built a special computer only for sage and its my htpc.
since i only use it for TV, i told xp to use only 1 user (for auto load, with no login screens).
when i try to run epg update (dos program), the scheduled task application of ms (in control panel), it wont run....
i was told in ms forum that i must put password for the user in order for it to work...
the whole point of the htpc for me is not having to put passwords, and make is accessible for my family (my wife hats computers ), and by putting password to the user the whole auto-load computer into sage will be lost.

did anyone encouter this problem? do you know how to solve it?

thank you.

what you need to do is set a password for your user account. now, in order to set it up so that it does not prompt you for a password when you start the computer. in a dos prompt type CONTROL USERPASSWORDS2
uncheck the "users must enter a user name..." and check OK or APPLY. XP'll prompt you for the user and password that you want to start windows with.

then you can give the scheduled task that password and it'll run fine.

Look and see if you have this Windows update installed:

KB841873

If you do try to uninstall it and see if it fixes your issue.

hello friends,

here is how to make it work!
go to start-->run-->cmd
now we have a dos window.

type regedit.
go to:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa

if you can't find the value: limitblankpassworduse
create one as REG_DWORD
and give it the value of '0'.
it it exists reset its value to '0'.

that is it!!!
open the task scheduler and run any scheduled task without ANY password.

i hope this will help all the good friends here, that helped me to run scheduled tasks (like epg update!).
