No Data
Hey guys!!
I'm having a lil trouble with my EPG. I am using SageTV to get the data, but only a few random channels get updated it seems. Does sage usually take a few days to get all the data? I tried doing the "add channel del channel" to force it to update "now" but that didn't do anything... Is there a way i can just delete my epg data? Any info or someone who is encountering the same thing would help my sanity. |

Well, like most things seem to do with HTPCs when it comes to me, secret chipmunks enter my room and program things on my computer to make things work...
Readded the source like i have before and now i get all the channel guide info... Man i swear on 90% of these forum posts I talk to myself. |

Those chipmunks need some time to do their work -- sometimes it takes a while to get all the EPG data downloaded & shown in the LiveTV Guide's grid; it usually isn't an instantaneous update.

I suggest a chipmunk upgrade. The new "network squirrel 3000" is a much more robust transport system.
Yep its Friday....

I'm having the same problem. Yesterday and today I checked and no data listed. So I tried removing/re-adding the source but thus far it hasn't done any good. I signed online this morning (after re-adding the source) and it has been running since, but no new data (for any channel) has been added so far. We're talking 7 hours straight online connection, but not a single new show entry for a single time slot. Shouldn't it update each of them gradually, or does it download an entire packet of data and then display everything suddenly at once (which would more explain the issue in this case)?
Edit: When I check the system information, it says, "next EPG update: 0 minutes"...I would typically think this means that it's doing an update now, but nothing seems to be happening. Now going on 9 hours... Last edited by mbrown3; 09-24-2005 at 04:10 PM. |

It sounds like either there is a problem with the SageTV EPG server or else your system just isn't able to talk to it. If you've recently installed a new version, did you make sure it has permission to get through your firewall? See this FAQ for info on what ports have to be open.

Nope, haven't installed any new version for MONTHS, and it was working fine for a long time. I have Sage set to permit on all ports in my firewall. Should I install v.3? I've been of the mind that "if it aint broke, don't fix it," but now that the EPG isn't working right, maybe installing v.3 will fix it?

OK, so I updated to v.3, and now it's downloading information as I write this (AND, I answered my own question...it updates EPG information as it goes, not in one large packet and then refreshes). So apparently 2.2 was having a problem and NOT connecting at all to the EPG servers. V.3 for me!

I only started having the No Data problem after I upgraded to 3.0.11. Guide was spotty, with only entries for a few channels at random times. Tried removing sources, channel lineups, etc., all in an attempt to force an EPG update. No luck.
Waited for the next update, and now the guide is filled in, but there are still a lot of entries that just say "No Data". Hoping the next EPG Update will resolve those. Crossing fingers... |

BTW: if there are regular problems getting EPG data, you should probably let SageTV know, in case there is something that they need to look into.

Thanks Andy. Would you suggest EPG Email, Bug Submission or contact Tech support?
The last EPG update didn't solve the No Data problem. Still have many channels that simply say No Data. |

... since it looks like you are using the beta, I suppose I would go the bug report route. - Andy

Bug Submission worked. Sage responded with the fix. Thanks!

Great.
But, do you mean there is a fix in the next release, they told you what to do to fix the problem, or what? Others might like to know... - Andy

Wasn't sure if I was allowed to post or not, but I suppose you can remove it if not.
From Sage: "Delete all of the lines in your Sage.properties file that have server_update_id in them. Then force an EPG update by enabling->disabling (or vice versa) any channel. That should fix this problem. We're working internally to correct it. Thanks, SageTV Support Team" The part about forcing the EPG update didn't work. But the problem was solved at the next scheduled update a few hours later. Last edited by InsertHere; 10-07-2005 at 09:04 AM. |

Hello
I just installed a new PVR USB2 into the HTPC. And everything seems to be working OK with EPG except one channel says "No Data". Its channel 300 HBO I am in the 61265 area code Any thoughts on why just one channel would should up this way in EPG? Any tricks to fix it? troubleshoot it? Just seems strange that only 1 channel is having this problem. At first, several of them had *No data* after I added the new Channel lineup...but after a little while (30 minutes?) all the channels filled in with correct channel lineup information. Just not channel 300. hmmmm |

I am using SageTV Lite. I show data when I first install the program, after that its gone. I have tried leaving it on, checking my firewall , redoing channel line up (once in awhile that works) and I still have no data. I tried the suggestion above about ..
"Delete all of the lines in your Sage.properties file that have server_update_id in them. Then force an EPG update by enabling->disabling (or vice versa) any channel" But I cant find anything that looks like the "server_update_id" in any of the folders. I was considering upgrading to the full version but I don't want to spend the money and still have this issue with the data not being there. Any suggestions? Thanks for your time. Steve |

Thanks for the quick reply. I found a file that says "Sage.properties" but it won't open with notebook. If I check properties on it, it says "opens with: Unknown application. Right click on it and it says Windows cannot open this file.
What am I missing? Thanks again. |
