Back-to-back Favorites on different channels and padding

I have a favorite "Lost" that comes on at 8pm, and a favorite "Reno 911!" that comes on at 7:30pm on a different channel. I have 5 minutes of padding on "Lost" (since missing even one minute of that show would ruin my entire life, lol). Sage chose to not record lost, (i'm assuming since the padding made it conflict with Reno 911), even though Lost is at the top of my list of favorites. Once i marked that paritcular episode of Reno 911 as "Watched" in the guide, Lost came up on my Upcoming Recordings. Should Lost have overridden Reno 911 since it is higher in my favorites?
Thanks...

by the way I'm using SageTV 3.0.11

Not necessarily. What Sage will do is look for future airings. If it sees the Lost episode is airing again soon and the Reno911 episode isn't then Sage will record Reno and reschedule Lost so that you end up getting both shows recorded.

I don't know if there is a way to make Sage always record Lost over Reno in that situation. I'm sure someone will know for certain.

should have checked that

That's right... i forgot that Sage is smart like that... I should've checked if it was later on in the recording schedule. I'll have to see what happens next week. Thanks for the info.

One thing you can do to force a fav to record a specific airing is to limit it to record only if the airing time falls within a specific day and/or hour. See the Advanced Options in Favorite Details (around p. 71 in the current v3 manual, btw).

Edit: and, yes, Lost is aired twice each week.

I should have added: just don't forget that if you do specify a date/time for a favorite, you'll have to be careful, in case the show changes its normal airing time.

I had it do that with the Commander & Chief pilot, and it was showing it would record the second showing until after the first showing occurred. Then it seemed to treat it like a rerun and not want to record it. Fortunately I caught it.
