Karin - Open Source Automatic Commercial Deletion
I found the karin program listed in one of the threads. I tried using it on a couple different shows, but it generated error messages each time indicating that it didn't like my video files. Has anyone had a luck with this program?

Never heard of it before. Concept sounds pretty interesting, but there doesn't appear to be any of the programmers actively working on it. (long time since it was updated.

I took a look at it. The biggest problem is that it analyzes raw audio/video data to do commercial detection.
That means you have to MPEG2 decode all of the frames...which is very ineffecient. The download you did failed because you can't use the ISampleGrabber interface in DirectShow on MPEG2 streams. There's also algorithms out there which operate on the MPEG2 stream directly; all of which are likely patented.

Narflex,
Thanks for looking into this. I won't waste anymore time trying to get the program to work. |
