too many small files when watching LiveTV

I try to find answer, but so far havent. I have noticed in past 2 days, while I was channel surfing using my SageTV and hauppauge remote control, that there were a lot of files leftover in my video directory (that is configured in SageTV setup)

I thought I could set this clear_partials_and_unwanted_when_ir_off=true and that it would delete all these little files. But that doesnt seem to do anything. I must have changed something that effected this, because I swear it used to delete all the files that were generated while watching liveTV and surfing around.

Thanks for any tips!

Did you enable Intelligent Recording? If you did, those snippets will remain until the disk space is needed for another recording, then they will be the first things deleted.

No I havent enabled IR, yet. Seems like doing so, can make lots of other things get recorded that can fill up the hard drive.

It seems like the first few days I used SageTV it was erasing those files. I changed this flag to false, and cant change it back to true. I tried a few times, and it always reverts back to false. Dont know why.

I hope there is some way to make these files get erased again. Otherwise I will have to write some little utlity to clean up all files < 400MB in size. Because I know those are ones I dont care about.

You need to quit Sage TV, not sleep. Or stop the Sage TV service if you have that running.

BTW: if using v3, you can set that property via the option in Detailed Setup -> Customize.

Also, you don't _have_ to delete all those files if they are staying around, since SageTV will delete them when space is needed.

and... there is my delete partials import which can list these partial files and delete them all in one go if you want... (Useful when IR is enabled and you want to do a disk cleanup)

Thanks for the info. I am not ready to use IR yet, until I learn more about it but I will check out the add in you mentioned for delete partials import.

I actually meant to ask about that, in the first place, for clarification: Is it my imagination, or does SageTV delete those files generated from watching live TV within a day or so? I thought it did orignally, and now it seems to not be doing it (I changed that one setting is all in the sage.properties file).

But maybe I just was such a newbie a few weeks ago, that I didnt really know _what_ was going on with the file cleanup.

Its working now. I think the problem was that I didnt close SageTV.exe totally. ANd it kept resetting the flag back to false. As soon as it *stayed* on true, the files from watching *LIVE* tv are deleted right away.

OK so I wasnt seeing things the first few days I swore it was working that way. And now its back to deleting all the small files. So that is good for me.
