DVD play error

I am not sure but I am getting errors on some DVD's.

Here what it say:
There was a DVD Error in playback. Details:

sage.PlaybackException: ERROR(-9,0x80040276): This operation is currently not allowed for this DVD.

And I cant get rid of that popup while video and sound is playing. I cant do anything. Please help. This is rented DVD from Blackbuster. it does play without any problems in my normal DVD player or using WinDVD for example. but with Sage 3.0.13 it just simple does not play, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Chris

What decoder did you setup in Sage to play the DVD? If you have WinDVD installed on that machine then setup Sage to use those decoders.

BTW: normally, that error means that you have tried to perform an invalid operation that the DVD doesn't allow -- such as trying to skip through the FBI warning. You are _supposed_ to be able to dismiss the error dialog, though.

If it happens even when you aren't trying to do anything, then Gerry's suggestion to change decoders is probably the best thing to try.

Sorry I forgot to metion, I am using for DVD InterVideo Decoder but I did try it with NVIDIA and CYBERLINK and I get exactly the same behavior. I also did try it with original SAGE decoders.

Andy, I have no time to try to perform anything that is invalid. As soon as I try to play the movie by going to the DVD option menu popsup while video and audio is playing in the background and I cannot cancel that popup window. As I said, it cames up right away. I do understand that Blockbuster does put lots of adds in front and they do not want you to skip them so I do understand that if I did try that it could cause such erorr but even though should I just get such error for a moment with ability to press on OK and continue that is once, but second why does it even show up in first place? did I setup something incorectly? Is there a setting in sage to go directly to DVD MENU or play movie righ away that would cause such behavior?

It only happens on few DVD's, it does not happen on all of them... The one that my wife rented last night is "A lot like love" if that helps in anyway...

I did try to change decoders and I have the same effect as to the second part of your suggestion.

Thanks for help. You guys are doing excelent job...

Chris

I think I did find a problem, in my config file I havd this set to true

when I did set it up to false popup window did not came up.

Anyway I think still there should be to press on OK someohoe even if I did get that popup window

Thanks.

In case it helps...

I hit the error simply trying to play the DVD from the DVD Drive (nothing sinister as far as ripping it to the hard drive, etc.)

Using SageTV 3.0.13.49
Using the standard STV that comes with the 3.0.13 install (i.e. 3.0.13.1)
All CODECs set to "Default"
No imports, tweaks or otherwise

Installation history was Sage 2.2, then 3.0.11, then 3.0.13 ... each one right on top of the other.

Did copy over the SageMC STV, tried it, got rid of it (seemed like fewer features than standard and, well, just learning, so have not had time to research stuff a lot).

Setup...
PVR-150
Windows XP
DirectX 9.0c

It's in the sage.properties (sageclient.properties if you're running client or the service) file, located in your SageTV install directory.
